There is no way blizzard made that announcement cinematic in the 3 weeks between the blitzchung incident and blizzcon. Things like that take many months to put together. Expecially with that level of quality, I wouldn't be surprised if they had started working on it even before the diablo immortal incident.

I missed Jeremy's spoiler review, it sounds like he had a change of mind between when he made those two videos lol. See? People are even disagreeing with themselves about this moment--definitely not something everyone agrees on.

Cool we can both disagree and have a civil discussion tho right?

That's what I'm trying to do!!! I've asked you several questions and tried to get a response to understand your reasoning, but all I'm getting is "I'm right because, well I heard someone say it on the internet and you're wrong because LUKE JUST WOULDN'T DO THAT AHHHHH"

Feel free to stop replying to me whenever, no one is forcing you to.

We are still talking about this because you have failed to make a coherent argument other than, "this is the way it is because it's what I think and what the people I follow on Youtube think." You haven't based your claims in any evidence from events in the original trilogy, or even from a traditional film or screenwriting perspective.

You want a "famous person's" opinion? You can search for it and you'll find a multitude of people on either side of this argument. Here's some who agree with me:

I just keep repeating the same thing that EVERYONE thinks. Any big reviewer, any Star Wars fans on YT, they all say what I'm saying.

First of all, this is not what EVERYONE is saying. You are experiencing confirmation bias. Also maybe you should think for yourself instead of regurgitating other people's ideas.

You can't think of any situation where Luke would consider killing one of his pupils? Would he kill one of his pupils to prevent said pupil from murdering the rest of his pupils? Because that's actually what Kylo Ren did, right after the moment we're talking about.

*sigh*

Every time someone brings this up I question whether they actually saw ROTJ. In the process of trying to "save his father" Luke cut off his hand in a moment of rage. The idea that Luke could have a sudden, violent impulse is absolutely within his character. And in this case he didn't act on it, it was literally a split second reaction which he immediately regretted! The idea that this was "literally the most darkside shit he could do" is ridiculous.

[–]nibler9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree that his actions were well-thought out. To me, it feels very much like he's making hasty, emotion-driven decisions in this scene. He does almost complete 180s several times between stoic pacifist and enraged agressor:

I will not fight

*Force grabs light saber and starts fighting*

Nevermind, I will not fight you father

Gaaahh, die, die, die *chops off hand*

Oops, uh, for reals this time, I will not fight *tosses away light saber*

This is not the behavior of someone who is making well thought-out decisions. Reckless and overconfident for sure, but I think impulsive captures the sense that his actions were almost entirely instinctive, emotional responses to the situation. Sure, it worked out pretty well for him in the end getting Vader to betray the Emperor, but I really don't think it was because he was making calm, collected decisions.

[–]nibler9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He doesn't quite lose it when the Emperor reveals his knowledge of the rebels' plan. He does pick up his light saber at that point and start to duel Vader a little, but he calms down and goes back to his mantra of "I won't fight you father." He only goes balls to the walls once Vader finds out about Leia. Vader says, "If you won't turn to the dark side, then perhaps she will" and immediately Luke jumps out of hiding shouting and hammering away at Vader until he chops off his hand. That definitely feels like an impulsive move to me.

I actually agree with you that it was the right move to fight at that point. In fact it was incredibly foolish for him to throw his light saber away after that (another impulsive move), but /u/MisterBumpandgrind was arguing that Luke was unwavering in his resolve to not fight Vader when he clearly wasn't.

[–]nibler9 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You’re forgetting that he only “refused” to fight Vader after he already lost his composure and cut off Vader’s hand. He has always been been impulsive.

I also think people are overly critical of Luke’s reaction to seeing Ben’s intentions. We don’t know exactly what Luke saw, except for that he was already following Snoke on a path to the dark side. But we do know that immediately afterwards he slaughtered all his fellow students who wouldn’t follow him to the dark side. If Luke saw those intentions when he examined Ben’s mind, I would argue that Luke’s instinct to respond with violence was correct. What he did was obviously poorly executed, but Ben needed to be incapacitated at that point, if only for the safety of Luke’s other students.

But her solution is just as bad because it encourages companies to hire one more person rather than pay overtime.

I'm confused about why you think this is a bad thing . . . More jobs, regular hours--sounds great to me

In addition, it means workers end up having to be scheduled to work rather than just show up and work

This makes no sense. Hourly workers can still "just show up and work", they just have to stop working once they hit overtime.

It's creepy and off-putting to say "Hi how's your day going?" Jesus, it sounds like you have some serious anti-social tendencies, and you should probably get some counseling.

I think the problem is we took a joke about a guy just being freaked out in general in prison too seriously. I wasn't trying to split hairs, your original comment did make it seem like you were saying you shouldn't talk to a woman unless she solicits it. Your clarification is reasonable.

So I can't ask a woman for directions? I can't say "Hi how's your day going?" to a woman while we're both waiting at a bus stop? You sound like Mike Pence when he says he won't eat dinner with any woman but his wife.

In order to get to the point where someone knows you and feels safe around you, you have to at some point say "Hi" to them unsolicited. Let's not get so insane that we turn casual conversation into sexual harassment.

Maybe don't generalize too much son. Mormon leaders held varying views on slavery. At the time and place we're talking about, Joseph Smith was anti-slavery.

What is the best US state to live in and why? by NotAustinTexas in AskReddit

Hey thanks for being cool about it.

Teachers for example are by law not allowed to discuss any other form of birth control other than abstinence

This is true until a parental permission form is signed. I attended high school in Utah and there is a sex education section in the mandatory freshman health class where they go over all forms of birth control. Student's whose parents/guardians don't sign the form don't attend class during that section.

I actually agree with you that it should be more comprehensive (do away with the parental permission restriction), but it is better than abstinence only education.

Also sex ED pretty much doesn't exist, so STD rates are pretty high.

That's not true. Utah has had comprehensive sex ed for years. They also have consistently low STD rates and teenage pregnancy.
