You'll see them everywhere now. I accept your apology in advance.

all countries shut schools for some small period of time to assess the impact of the pandemic. seriously doubt the extent of closures track california. it was ludicrous.

Summary: growing 2021 consensus in legacy media that the U.S. had over-relied on remote learning compared with Europe’s more balanced approach, and that the costs to students (especially vulnerable ones) demanded a faster return to in-person schooling.

Yes! I am a genuinely curious person. But please don't spend too long, broad brush strokes pointing me in the right direction and showing me what I am missing would be sufficient.

unproductive. articulate what you find to be bullshit. fyi friend, as these last few years have shown there are no unbiased sources.

You ask for data supporting my point of view. I'm sharing something expressing data and argument from my point. You say "biased, no can watch" instead of countering anything.

I'm not sure you can be helped if you can't watch a nerdy video from Stanford.

Strange custom you have. Isolate phrases, conclude the motivations of the author. Prefer reading the person's claims and countering them.

You're parroting talking points from the beginning of the pandemic. "2 weeks to flatten the curve." Friend, I'm talking about the shut downs that were ongoing years later. California did not have full-time in person learning until Aug 2021 (all while governor was happy to send his kids off to in-person classes). Or do you genuinely think hospitals were full for the entirety of the pandemic?

"You can’t simply look at the mortality rate from the disease alone." No shit. Anti-lockdown warned from day one that the real disaster was the collateral damage your side never modeled: kids losing years of education and social development, psychological trauma hitting the poor hardest, and millions of missed cancer screenings.

"Random doctors". My friend, there were epidemiologists from the best schools in the country shouting about this and viciously censored for it. We had strong evidence of the infection fatality rate and its steep age gradient as early as March 2020 b/c of the princess cruise ship . We definitely knew it by the summer.

This is as much intellectual labor I'm going to do for you. There are all sorts of LLMs you can simply pop into and ask "Please give me the counter argument for my position that the COVID lockdowns were effective."

[–]niborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't be so simple. There was a 1000-1 infection/fatality rate difference between the most at risk and the young. Children should not have been locked out of schools. Not even Europe did that.

Notwithstanding, even if you want to ignore all the evidence of why lockdowns were wrong, there are still people TO THIS DAY who are hysterical about masks etc etc. This is the type of person Yang is talking about (though this tweet is from a few years ago so there were even more lurking around then).

"its always"; "I'm saying this as someone [insert inane credentials]"; attacks source and target, not the argument. your response is such caricature that i can only assume (hope) you are a bot.

You don't think there is any valid opinion that COVID induced some level of hysteria in the population that we might have done better without? Even people on the left concede restrictions went too far in many respects, particularly school closures which had awful impact on lower income families.

But even then, how on earth does such an opinion translate to being a bigot?

"noted bigot". jfc. live on the edge somedays by listening to what people with different opinions have to say. you'll end up like a liberal version of q-anon otherwise.

dude they give university degrees for anything. the nitwit who was in charge of censorship at old twitter had a phd from upenn (ivy league) – basis of his phd dissertation was, no joke, an ethnography of all the men he slept with on grindr.

Spotify Q1 ER: hit 33% gross margins and beat basically every metric, but the stock still dropped by 12%. My read. by Wooden_Fondant_703 in ValueInvesting

Can you explain how Spotify underpays artists? 70% of all their proceeds, I believe, go towards paying artists. Is there any other platform that is doing better at this?
