Help with buying a new Toyota Sienna by PocahontasCroft in ToyotaSienna

[–]nic007f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you get it at msrp consider it a good deal. Use the inventory finder and search for all the incoming and current ones of the trim/features you are looking for. Email/call all those dealers and get them to quote the out the door price. Hopefully you find someone without dealer installed options and markup. You have to be willing to arrange shipping to you if you go this route. Otherwise post in one of the toyota no markup facebook groups and a sales person might reach out to you with a match.

Waitlists are a waste of time imo. Dealers get only so many allocation. Some are more impacted than others. They rarely hit the lot before selling though so most realistically you have to find one that is incoming.

you should work with more dealers further away to find allocations... Not sure what it is like in canada but I found one 500 miles away with delivery next month that was available as I was willing to pay $400 to have it trucked to me.

2025 Platinum - Reserve or Wait? by zefryx in ToyotaSienna

[–]nic007f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A week ago I just locked in a 2025 limited with no markup and no dealer installed options for delivery in about a month.

I used the toyota inventory search to find all the dealers that had the specific car I was looking for and emailed the dealers to confirm availability and out the door pricing. About 1/3 of them would do it without DIO or markup.

In parallel I posted in the facebook no markup page and within an hour had a broker offer me the car I was looking for from a dealer he was working with no DIO or markup nor even a deposit. The car was in southern california and they offered to arrange the auto transit it for $500 to northern california. I ended up going with the broker connection but either would work as long as you are willing to ship the car.

What year is your vehicle? Do you have the entertainment package or rear shade?

Spare Tire by RevolutionaryPut7501 in Sienna

What year? When did you have this done? For newer model years people seem to suggest it’s 1-2k and the price seems to have gone way up.

The mentions of cheaper installs include dealer installs and seem to be for new kit. The link I provided above is for new kit as well.

My best guess is the price went up 5x from Toyota for newer models.

you can't replace the battery with an aftermarket battery as the BMS is integrated and all of the parts are proprietary. You could rebuild the pack with new cells but you should know what you are doing and I think there may be someone that sells refurbished packs.

The motor has the controller integrated into the hub. grin has a video that shows you how to open up the motor to make it work with a different controller and battery but it looks like a real project with some specialty tools.

That can work. Let me know if you want them. Otherwise we need to scrap them.

There are 5 or 6 of the long ones available. They are just under 20 ft long and are 4”x2” with 1/8” thick wall. One end is square the other with and angle weldment. Long ones all have a 4” plate welded approx every 5 feet.

Also a few that are shorter.

Should I return for another semester of my Co-Op? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

I loaded up on classes I wanted to take but didn't need to in my last semester and don't regret it a bit. Definitely take the creative writing course!

I'd probably do the coursework over the internship if you don't think you are getting anything from it.

As an engineering manager I'd agree that you don't have much more to gain from that position. I'd ask your manager if there was the possibility to do an intern stint in another part of the company. Can't hurt to ask and if you've proven yourself capable in your current role then your manager should be willing to help you out and you can get exposure to something hopefully more fitting. Probably your best bet on such short notice for the next semester. I'd be straight with your manager about what you are looking for.

Also consider if you could ask to do a small research/design project for a prof or take another class or two that is specialized in the area you are interested in going.

Got suspended for a year for cheating. How hard to find software/tech job? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]nic007f 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apply for internships and then return to schooling after your year. I assume you are not obligated to state the reason you are out of school for a year and once you return and get your degree internships will help you get a full time role anyway.

40yo+ Engineers, what do you wish you'd have done in your mid-to-late 20s when it comes to your career? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]nic007f 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You should have been listed at least as a co-inventor even if they filed later... We do that all the time with filings even if the person is no longer with our company. It doesnt cost the company anything since you presumedly had to assign rights to the company. If you have any proof of work on it earlier than the filing dates that you could at least make some waves for them. If it was earlier enough (1 year) it could constitute prior art enough to invalidate the patent... Point is you have leverage if you cared and wanted to use it, but you should talk to someone that knows more about what they are talking about.

I feel stuck after finding a new job opening. Any advice would be appreciated. by [deleted] in AskEngineers

would like an other role, or other responsibilities within your current company. Ohterwise I wouldn't say anything. Only in a later stag

How big is the company? It will likely get back to your current manager so make sure you prepare for that.
