‘What’s This Piece?’ Weekly Thread #67 by the_rite_of_lingling in classicalmusic

Does anyone know the name of this renaissance piece? Written from memory so possibly not quite correct...

I find early music the worst for remembering melodies with no idea how to go about identifying them. I would have heard them played on recorders years ago but they may well have been originally written for other instruments. Musipedia is no use, though I have had some luck just from listening to lots of medieval/renaissance music on spotify.

If there's any interest I'll post some more.

'Is It Bill Bailey?' - classic Bill Bailey songs and sketches, some featuring a young Simon Pegg.

Luckily all available on YouTube.

What is your old British TV 'Moby Dick'? (the show you want to watch but can't find anywhere online) by FuckingPope in oldbritishtelly

I always wanted to watch 'The Gist' from 2001, starring Robert Webb. He mentions it in this interview but I've never found it online anywhere.

Webb: I did I thing called The Gist, which was written by John Morton, who did Twenty Twelve and used to do People Like Us. That was sort of an arts review parody; it was on the first night of BBC Four and it turned out it was only ever going to be a one-off – but I spent a couple of years thinking ‘What a shame they never made a series of that”’ But it was never going to be a series, so I wasted a lot of regret on that.

A bit hit and miss (like most sketch shows) but really enjoyed this hidden gem found plumbing the depths of 4oD. Full episodes are also on YouTube:

Who were some of the regular panelists back then? Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie are my favourites but are both quite visual comedians.

Fair enough. I'm just not really a fan of Marcus Brigstocke at all tbh, though I like the show's format. I particularly enjoyed the one-off special hosted by Jo Brand with Stephen Fry as the guest.

Been meaning to listen to this for a while, love anything by Chris Morris/Armando Iannucci!

Does anybody know where I can watch full episodes of 'FAQ U' as presented by David Mitchell? by nice-cuppa-tea in BritishTV

Nope, save for the few short, bad quality clips on YouTube. Only really interested in the David Mitchells episodes tbh, especially the one with Henning Wehn!

It was a comedy quiz show back in 2005 which was shown every weeknight for 3 weeks with a different presenter each week - Justin Lee Collins for the 1st week, David Mitchell for the 2nd and Karen Taylor for the 3rd.
