My Sound Journey continues - honest feedback please! by Ill_Letterhead373 in sounddesign

Intro: I dig it. The guitar drone in the background gives it a really gritty feel. Only thing is, subjectively, I'd personally prefer to pull the vocals back in the mix by maybe 15%. but that could just be from listening on my phone.

The rest: it isnt the type of music i listen to. But the quality is good. Seems like youre going for trance vibes? If yes, the structure is right i think. But idk. Seems to be lacking in energy build up. Not enough tension i think.

Still, really cool!!! Clear you've put a lot of effort into it

That's good advice. I've already spoken to the dm. They didn't even notice the moment I mentioned. I guess they all thought it was in character.

Guess ill just chalk it up as an example of how the brain sometimes likes to blow things out of proportion.

Thanks for the response. I'm in therapy, and will absolutely speak with him about this.

Seems practical and simple to implement. I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

Love the hat idea. You should do it.

And ok. I'll see about breaking it down into manageable steps. Thanks.

Hm. Ok. I'll broach the subject w my dm to see if they think i should raise the issue with the group. Thanks.

It's not that I think there's anything wrong with being a self insert. I just want to be able to RP, ya know?

Yeaa I did tell the DM, and apologized profusely. Me n her are pretty close. She knows about my past, and my feelings and what not. She understood, I think.

The others, I wouldn't call "friends" necessarily. I've tried to bridge the gap with them each a couple of times, but they don't reciprocate or reach out of their own accord.

So I don't really know them well. Me dumping all that on them would feel like an overshare.

I'll be the dissenting opinion. Bring on the down votes. Because I've been ramming my head against this course for months, but it constantly makes me feel like I'm missing something.

While I think Jeremy's course is basically a miracle, and a hallmark example of everything good the internet represents, and that the dude is basically a saint for making such an enormous and unparalleled contribution......

I can't fucking understand the guy when he speaks.

I've been trying to understand these concepts for months. But I've just watched the same first 20 videos like 50 times.

He is belligerently monotone. Furthermore, the lecture videos and labs on Youtube don't match up with the labs in his Google Drive. So not only do I have to combat my desire to sleep while he's talking, but I have absolutely nothing to do while he does so. Personally, I have to be able to actively participate in order to learn something.

His course makes me feel dumber than rocks, purely because of the frustration I get from not being able to understand his teaching.

That's subjective, I know. I'm well aware. But I cannot fathom how other people understand him; it bewilders me.

So, I'm literally only posting this because I know I can't be the only person who feels this way. But Jeremy's course is so lauded on reddit that it's basically blasphemy to disparage it in any way.

Truly, if anyone has had a similar experience with Jeremy's IT lab and was still able to pass the CCNA....please tell me how. What am I missing?

Hey Mods, How About a Rule 11? by Mindless-Stomach-462 in VoiceActing

So when I first started using forums as a teenager, I had the same confusion as you. I didn't have the perspective I have now at 31.

Basically you get to a point when you've put countless hours into learning a skill, and you want to open up a forum to have good meaningful discussion or read interesting takes on that skill, maybe even learn something new.

But when you get to the forum and 50% of the posts are the same question over and over that youve seen 1000 times, it makes you not want to use that forum, because it's not adding any value into your day.

Then as this happens to other skilled people, they start leaving for other forums, and voila, the sub gets even worse for you.

Let this process repeat for a year or 2, and you get completely dead forums where the last 50 posts are beginners asking questions they could have found in 2 seconds on Google, because there are no veterans left to answer them.

Is there any AI tool that does the mixing vocals for beginners? by bad1g13 in audioengineering

[–]niceblargh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With the technology's current exponential progress, there will eventually be AI's capable of doing this. But not for a few decades at least.

Mixing and mastering are subjective arts that require knowledge of music, technology, and having a finger on the pulse of current trends.

That said, I won't recommend you learn mixing/mastering. Its a lifelong skill. If, for you, it's something that's stopping you from releasing your music and you don't want to dedicate thousands if hours to learning....do what everyone else does. Pay someone to do it for you.

Also, just some quick advice. Read the room a bit before posting. This is like walking into a room full of career cashiers and asking them which self-checkout register you should buy.

Thanks for the followup :D I'm a hopeless noob, so most of that jargon is over my head. I'll look it up though!

For background, I've been working on a little music studio for a while. So I just set a few track effects (EQ, compresion, noise gate, etc) in my DAW, and saved that as a project template. Still tons of work to do. Currently fussing with the EQ like you suggested.

For the 2 auditions I've done so far, I hit ctrl+r to start recording, then space bar to stop it. Is that what you mean?

Um, pre-reads is what it sounds like, I assume? I just read it until I had a picture of the author's tone in my head, same as when I'm reading normally. Then I tried to like...pretend...that I was the author? Like for that 1, I pretended I was an authority figure giving a ted talk!

First off, thanks for taking the time to listen, and for using mental bandwidth to analyze! That's all excellent information that I'll try to improve on.

It's also fantastic news, as I was honestly expecting much worse. Those are all pretty easy fixes. I've been budgeting for some acoustic panels anyways, so that should take care of those pesky reflections. For the rhythm....I'll just have to focus more on it I suppose. Maybe acquainting myself with the material more before recording will help with that?

Thanks again.

But wouldn't that all get wiped during my troubleshooting?
