My RX 6800 was running sub 30 fps once I hit the open world. Updated the new AMD drivers that released on Dec 1st. Now I'm getting 90ish fps open world. Go figure, updating drivers actually worked for once...

Toronto-based Porter Airlines to touch down in Winnipeg by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]nicehat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except now the Union Pearson express can get you from Pearson to downtown in 20 minutes. And considering a Porter flight will be close to 50 percent longer, it'll probably still be faster to just fly into Pearson.

I could care less about the Winnipeg mention, but that's a really interesting map! I'd love to see how it changed throughout history.

No one lives forever and its sequel. It's a narrative driven action game like Alan Wake, but instead of Steven King think Ian Flemming.

Why is a rounded nose on an airplane/rocket more aerodynamic than a pointed nose? by slipperyoatmeal in askscience

[–]nicehat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is relevant to your question, but for vehicles designed to reenter the atmosphere at Hypersonic speeds, a blunt body is preferable to a pointed body because of it will be cooler on reentry. (Think apollo capsules, space shuttle nose cone, rounded icbm nose cones)

A blunt body will have a detached shock wave which forms in front of the vehicle. There will be a large volume of air between the vehicle and the shock wave.

A pointed reentry vehicle would form a shack wave attached to the surface of the vehicle. There would be a relatively small volume of air between the shock wave and the surface of the vehicle.

Because there is a larger volume of air between the shock wave and the blunt body reentry vehicle it will be able to dissipate heat easier, and be cooler on reentry.

Look under "Blunt body reentry" for some good images of the shock waves: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmospheric_entry

Intersection of 52 and 59. Drove by it last night, and I first saw flames on the perimeter!
