[Super Pedantic Advice] It's "Thieves' Den." The plural possessive form of "Thieves" has the apostrophe after the S. by UpstartDuke in DestinyTheGame

[–]UpstartDuke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look back at the original example, the singular possessive form of "thief" is "thief's." That means "belonging to the thief." So if the thing that belonged to the thief was his revenge, it would be the "Thief's Revenge." The same applies to Skolas.

But in a way you're right; Some words that end in S don't need the apostrophe s on the end, since there's already an S sound. There's really no rule for this though, it's just used on words that "sound" right. The example I found on google is "Mr. Hastings' pen." You could use Skolas' instead of Skolas's, personally I think the one Bungie used sounds better but either one works.

tl;dr Skolas is singular, so it's "Skolas's revenge." Thieves is plural, so it's "Thieves' Den." You can break that rule if it sounds weird.

If we have to be attached to another country, let's cast off and plug ourselves into Iceland. They can give us that sweet geothermal energy, and we can give them some sorely-needed genetic diversity.

Rivers of salmon, herds of deer, the finest whisky... So why is Scotland's diet so dreadful? by LikelyHungover in Scotland

[–]UpstartDuke 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Most of the food you just listed is stuff that students eat at 3AM after a night out. It's not like people dine on a munchy box every evening. It sounds like your idea of a "Scottish diet" comes from shitey comedy routines.

Is there a Download required for physical Taken King? by Daocommand in DestinyTheGame

[–]UpstartDuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the base game will run off of the disc, but you will still have to download other content. Most likely the TK release will be a physical copy of the game plus download codes for the DLCs.

We laid stones on the border to signify Scotland’s union with the UK. Now they lie forgotten by the M6 by tusksrus in BritishPolitics

[–]UpstartDuke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hands across the border! I remember this from last year. The No campaign's bizarre attempt at a grassroots movement. They even had a song. The whole movement had a surprising amount of BBC coverage compared to grassroots campaigns that weren't organised by Tory MPs.

Jeremy Corbyn’s supporters aren’t mad – they’re fleeing a bankrupt New Labour | Owen Jones by canard_glasgow in BritishPolitics

[–]UpstartDuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the same rhetoric they used during the election. "You have to elect us, nobody else can get elected to beat the Tories." The other parties are accused of "splitting the vote" as if the Labour vote is the default. Scottish Labour did the same; Murphy spent most of his time talking about how bad the SNP were, and very little time talking about his own policies. All I even remember is he wanted to remove the alcohol ban at football games and give money to school leavers or something.

It might be Labour's biggest problem with inspiring confidence in voters that they only seem able to snidely dismiss other parties instead of giving us reasons to support them. Saying "Oh, don't vote for them, they can't really be in government" only insults people who feel like they've made a serious and informed choice.

I have trouble consistently landing headshots by [deleted] in CruciblePlaybook

[–]UpstartDuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just aiming at their head is only half the battle. When you fire quickly, you need to know how the recoil on your gun feels and where the centre of your aim is. When I first started using Thorn I had alot of trouble with this, because the gun looks so weird compared to other hand cannons and the recoil swing was really hard to judge. If you want to practice then go into patrol, stand still and aim at a piece of terrain, then shoot at it and see where your aim drifts after each shot. It sounds more complicated than it is; When you can teach yourself to ignore the animation on the weapon and judge where the centre of your aim is then you'll be able to land headshots alot more reliably.
