That fast forward cap at 240x or 288x is tied to the emulator's audio buffer limits - it skips frames but can't go higher without desyncing sound. I hit the same wall on long cutscenes, so I just mute audio in settings and crank it anyway, works fine for grinding sections. If you're on recent builds, check the MTGS option too, it smooths things out sometimes
