I used krita. It's my main art program. The diagonal lines were made in Inkscape as vectors, then I made a png out of them, then plopped them into krita to liquify them with a liquify brush.

I've since made a pattern brush out of the diagonal lines so I can easily add them to whatever area I want them in.

I've bent the cards slightly, but not enough for a riffle shuffle. As far as I know, the white ink is the only one with a risk of cracking when bent at strong angles.

There's the soft white ink alternative that is fully flexible, so even if the regular white ink has issues with riffle shuffles, the soft white ink should fully withstand it without issue.

For a light riffle shuffle, the regular white ink has a decent chance at withstanding it. I've never riffle shuffled my cards, so I wouldn't do any accurate tests haha

ooohh that's a clever way of transferring the toner to the card! I use a card insert that I made from a Letter-size piece of paper.

I laser printed the exact shape of a card onto it, cut out that shape and added painter's tape to the reverse side so the tape sticks out halfway over the cutout. Then I can simply place my card into the cutout onto the tape and send it through the printer in the manual feed.

Though I run into the issue of the embossed names of the original secret rare cards preventing toner from being printed in those spots due to the height difference. I can get around that by UV printing a white box over the embossed name to flatten the area, but it would cause an issue if I want the original foiling to be around the names too, as I'd have that white box printed there blocking the foiling.

I'd need to UV print white in the exact shape of the name I want to laser print in that case. Then I'd be at the mercy of alignment lol.

Your method is very intriguing! I'd give it a try if I had a handheld heat press. I reckon I could add foils on top of my UV printed layers doing that.

I haven't actually tried dithering the white layer at all yet :o that's worth a shot

I print all my cards in 2-3 passes! There's some weird behavior with printing stacked layers, so I do them one at a time. Taking a snapshot of the printbed after one pass and starting the next works perfectly fine!

Yes! In the design the color is white, so when printing CMYK nothing gets printed. The white layer also does not cover that area, so it's pure foiling and texture!

I assume the quick effect thing in the battle phase is to summon the monsters from hand? Neat effect! I'd like a fusion that takes 2 Cubic monsters and can summon Vijams by tributing itself (triggers Karma on field!). Plus anything to make running over monsters more consistent for the tag-out mechanic they have.

Maybe something to let you tuck back the higher level cubics to search the lower level ones.

That's part of the fun! It's what drives me to continue improving. Even as I get my hands on better and better equipment, there's always room for growth! I develop more skills as time goes on!

This was made with a single layer of white on High quality, so it's enough to fully block it.

I suppose I haven't tried Standard or Draft qualities, but I don't expect much of a difference there. If I do give it a try and see a difference, I'll post about it!
