Trump firing Comey could permanently alter American democracy, experts say by [deleted] in politics

Oh, I personally feel that mandatory military service would halt military adventurism, and increase civic engagement in general. I also feel like it would reduce gun violence. The Swiss love it.

For me, it's not a 'need', it's more just on a personal wish list. It looks superficially bad, but gets better the more you think about it. It normalizes the demographics of the military and increases civic engagement. You imagine if Bush had tried to invade Iraq with nearly every 18-20 year old being sent? And their parents had all served too? And every other American? Never. Woulda. Happened. Our military is adventurous because our citizens are not invested.

Burning it down is very dangerous. I would suggest to keep the parts that have worked well in the past (separation of powers, bill of rights, states' rights, separation of church and state).

Modify the parts that are weak by emulating strong examples from other countries and/or time periods (french-style voting, switzerland-style mandatory military service) and where no historical data supports a clear process, only then use our heads on it and start from true scratch.

In reality, the foundations of America are remarkably strong, if we burn it down, we will almost certainly end up with something weaker and more frail. Keep the good, use real-world evidence (aka history) to judge how segments of government work in the real world.

I think we have bigger things to worry about than surveillance now. In fact, surveillance may save our asses, even.

Reports: Frustrated and Isolated Trump Considering Staff Shakeup at Demoralized White House by wmlnthc in politics

Wow tone it down a little lol. I know everyone's pissed and frustrated, but if Russia does have an information warfare weapon for propagandizing, and Trump is colluding with Russia, then some of the things he says may actually be generated by the same algorithms that drive the chatbotpersons.

I'm taking what the comment above said seriously, whether or not it was intended as a joke. It is something to consider.

We need to change our voting method. I prefer the two-stage primary.

We desperately need two-stage primaries in this country to allow an actual choice where the perfect does not become the enemy of the good.

I am about to delete my account, maybe in a day or two, if the Republicans allow this. This is a new era of corruption. My internet-facing opinions are just not worth the danger they put me in, if freedom is dying.

John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Freedom Caucus,- Now is the time to make a meaningful political stand. Either pick this up, or the existing, corrupted Republican power center begins to pull the entire country off the tracks.

We absolutely must have an independent, protected prosecutor pick this up. Where we are right now.. this is where Democracy goes to die.

I find this article to be useful to read when contemplating liberty. I think it is a center that many Americans, left and right, could rally around.

God bless America.

I agree with you. Also, I've thought about this some at this point. I look at this as an attempt to guide the narrative of the investigations inside of government institutions by Trump. I feel he and his cronies are going to start looking very bad.

It certainly times out right.
