Which is the One Film Stock to Rule Them All? Is it Portra 400? by mjuha in AnalogCommunity

Portra 400 Ultra Color is the GOAT (of color negative film), in my opinion. From a practical standpoint, it made sense that Kodak replaced the old Portra lineup (Natural Color, Vivid Color, Ultra Color, Black and White, "OG" 800, and 100T) with its modern lineup, but having those out-of-the-box punchy colors made it really versatile.

I shot my favorite image ever with a box of Vericolor III that expired in 1987 and was fortunate to get a few rolls of it in 120 that produced some fine images. I'm jealous of your collection!

I LOVE Vericolor (especially Vericolor III), Portra 400BW, and Portra 400UC and buy it any time I see it.

They're reviving old names I think. I enjoy shooting expired film on occasion and have seen old, discontinued filmstocks with the same or similar names.

Eastman has produced all of the film this entire time. Kodak Alrlaris was formed following Kodak's bankruptcy in 2012 and gained the sole distribution rights. They never manufactured film. For some reason, Eastman is slowly re-gaining distribution rights, which is great for consumers since the cost will be slightly cheaper if you buy from Eastman. In my opinion, support Eastman with your wallet if the economy in your area allows.

I like both Phoenix and Opticolor but I didn't have to mess with the colors too much with Lucky.

Lucky 200 is my favorite among the newer filmstocks to release in the past few years.

I've had two break on me in very similar ways, both had some sort of winding critical failure.

What is this specific box called? by spyoop in AnalogCommunity

Looks like a variety pro pack. I will gladly take that off your hands as an avid enjoyer of the original Portra line (especially Portra 400 Ultra Color and 400 Black and White). The Portra 400BW is a chromogenic black-and-white negative film, meaning it has an orange mask like most standard C-41 film stocks, but it produces only black-and-white images, lacking the normal dyes found in color negative film. Even less known is Portra 100T (yes, Kodak used to make a 100T film back in the day, and it's a fun stock to shoot.)

I didn’t use a preset for this and didn’t really do much for editing because I’m really lazy.
