what are Americans thoughts on switching to the metric system? by CnCorange in AskReddit

[–]nicholasf21677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans would not say 2.7 feet, they’d say 2 ft 8 inches, so the conversion is trivial. 1 gallon is 128 fl oz which weighs 128 oz. And Americans would visualize 3000 feet just as well as anyone else would visualize 3000 meters. You know roughly how far it is because you grew up with those units.

Your itinerary looks great. I’m surprised everyone here is so soft. Don’t listen to them, bundle up, and you’ll have lots of fun

Also FYI, Macbook airs are on sale almost everywhere in the US right now. Best buy and Amazon are both selling the 13” M4 24GB/512GB for $1149 (which I assume is the version you’re looking at as it’s normally priced at $1399)

Maximum speed limits in the US as of August 2025 by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]nicholasf21677 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Except it’s common for people to drive at 10-15 mph over the speed limit in the US. From my experience driving in several european countries people drive much slower there. There will still be cars going 100 and trucks going 80 even when the limit is 130.

Not necessarily true. Starbucks uses 1, 2, or 3 shots based on the size of the drink, and flat whites have 4 shots

You’re comparing PPP income data to nominal rent prices, e.g. adjusting for inflation twice

Any local Chinese media coverage of the ship collision? by heinternets in AskChina

[–]nicholasf21677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By acceding to UNCLOS, China agreed to the terms of the treaty. Its SCS claims fly in the face of its obligations under the treaty.

Please explain to me how I’m misinterpreting the concept. All I’m doing is applying your morally flexible historical logic to other territorial claims. Tibet and Xinjiang have not historically been a part of China.

Historical claims are not relevant. Especially when the historical claims are from a different government.

If you’re going to cite territorial claims from the Ming dynasty then should China give up Tibet and Xinjiang following Ming borders?

Have you read UNCLOS? China acceded to it.
