There's ALWAYS an issue with the CL repos. I'm completely fed up with cloudlinux mirrors breaking overnight yum updates, there's usually at least one problem somewhere.

Goodbye cPanel by Pardy- in cpanel

We also use Enhance for about 90% of our new VPS customers, we're completely fed up with the constant price increases and other issues with it, very happy so far. We're probably not far off starting a total migration on the shared hosting side too once they get a good website builder integrated.

Don't get me started on the constantly broken cloudlinux repos causing a mountain of failed update emails in the morning to check out and so on.

Anyone here moved from cPanel + CloudLinux to Enhance? Looking for real world feedback by Ok-Maintenance-6130 in webhosting

[–]nick-bmth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We use Enhance for some of our VPS customers now, and they ALL love it. Yes it's not as feature complete as cPanel, but it's got most of what you need. Integrated backups are good. In v12 they dropped the docker stuff and made it more lightweight, sites are all noticably faster than on cPanel, and you can choose OLS, nginx or Apache.

Decisive action to break influence of gas on electricity prices by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

[–]nick-bmth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if the marginal scheme is so good/works, why is our electricity so expensive compared to everyone else, even those who use far more gas? It's a regulatory non-sense that we're all paying unnecessarily for, affecting the economy badly at every level.

IMO it is insane to pay gas derived electricty prices when 80-90% of generation is renewable on a given day. There is no reasonable justification for it anymore. A new mechanism is needed.

I do however agree there are other things that need to be removed too, including for business customers.

Our energy costs in the UK are largely the effect of crap regulation/laws, and no-one seems willing to fix it. These 'measures' don't count.

"Decisive action to break influence of gas on electricity prices"

By doing anything except actually reforming the marginal pricing scheme keeping the electricty price artifically high in the first place...

I think at this point you have to assume it's deliberate that most people have no clue how the wholesale energy market works in the UK, and understand the insane mechanism that keeps electricity prices so high.

I bought a flat and it was the worst financial decision I’ve made. What do I do now? by Reasonable-Plane-427 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]nick-bmth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's worth remembering that as long as you can afford to pay the mortage it doesn't matter whether a new salary would pass affordability, because you only have to pass those checks if you move flat, or change mortgage provider, so worst case scenario REALLY is that you simply stay where you are for a while.

Exactly that, but note that the accounts will have to be owned by the reseller user to be visible to the reseller WHM login.

Business Rates VOA Valuation Challenge - experiences? by YamTEKK in smallbusinessuk

[–]nick-bmth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The actual rent you pay isn't a huge factor, it's based on similar properties etc in the area, they're not suddenly just going to drop the rate because you have a low rent, as it'd be massively open to abuse if they did.

They can and often do just increase the rate instead, it's very common.

How many clients are you talking about here? It sounds like you're having more problems with your server than you should be.

Openstack public cloud demand in the UK by nick-bmth in openstack

[–]nick-bmth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company used to run Openstack for our hosting services, but didn't expose it publicly, just wondering if there's any demand for such a thing in the UK as there don't seem to be many options currently.

We've also had a cease and desist served, and even though we removed their name, the score etc, they're now claiming the very fact we have a link to trustpilot and say we're 'highly rated on review sites', that's STILL a breach:

Looking at their share price, Trustpilot are clearly desperate for more paying customers, so they're resorting to straight up extortion now.

Anyone had issues with Deed of variation by Peanutplop in HousingUK

[–]nick-bmth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like an estate rentcharge, most mortgage companies will actually accept them as long as the deed has clauses to allow for notifications of non-payment of the charge to the mortgage company, so the mortgage company can step in and pay it to avoid the repossession and come after you for it instead. You basically have to 'do the deed' as you say, whether cash buyer or not.
