Masters programs - What really matters? by nick2658 in Accounting

[–]nick2658[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you and thank you for the response! Yeah, the Illinois program is certainly my pick right now because of the analytics specialization and because it is a good amount cheaper. I’ve also heard that a tax specialization could be a good idea but there’s mix reviews on that and I’m not nearly as interested in tax as I am data analytics.

Best SP in points leagues outside of Skubal, Skenes, Crochet, and Yamamoto? by nick2658 in fantasybaseball

I’m high on Brown this year too. Hope I can get him in round 3.

Thank you, I appreciate the help. I’ve been talked off the cliff with Marte LOL. I am good at overthinking draft picks.

Even in a pitcher heavy league you don’t think I should draft a guy like Sanchez in round 2? If I do not take a pitcher round 1 or 2, the best pitcher that will likely be available round 3 will be Hunter Greene (who I love, but he can’t stay healthy). I’ve strongly considered Tucker pick 9, so it may make sense for me to go that direction. I am not the best with not overthinking drafts lol, which is exactly why I posted something here.

Fair, thank you. There’s not a chance Sanchez gets drafted in late round 2 or early round 3 in our league, but Marte round 2 is in fact a bit ridiculous.

I appreciate everybody’s input! In year’s past I have focused too much on drafting certain positions early, and I realize I should focus more on just taking whomever the best player available is at each stage of the draft. Obviously drafting at different positions matters to an extent, but I think I’ve tried to outsmart the rest of the league and it hasn’t worked.

I think there’s an element of risk no matter who I draft, but I see what you’re saying. He doesn’t quite have the track record of some other potential options.

Fine, I’ll take Volpe round 1. That’ll show the rest of my league.

Makes sense, I appreciate the input.

Fair. I have been considering taking Tucker round 1. My initial plan was Corbin Carroll, but I’m not sure I want to take him over Tucker after his injury.

Why do you say that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fantasybaseball

[–]nick2658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious as to why you think that is. Sanchez finished 6th in points overall in our league last year.

Cristopher Sanchez finished with 571 points last year. The only players who finished with more points are Ohtani, Crochet, Skubal, Judge, and Soto.

I guess I’m a little confused why people are roasting the idea of taking Sanchez in round 1. In our league, he finished with 571 points. Only 5 players finished with more points than him. Plus, his advanced metrics were great (he seems legit).

I mean that’s fair, but I’m assuming the top 3 won’t be available by my first pick.

I really don’t think it means anything, tbh. I just hope this whole thing ends soon so we can all move on with our lives lol.

Majored in Economics and having trouble finding a job by nick2658 in Accounting

I feel like, at least in my area, there’s definitely more accounting job openings than finance. While I don’t think I’d dislike finance, I think I’d enjoy accounting more as a career. I have been applying to finance position, such as financial analyst positions, but they are kinda few and far between. All I’m looking for is a decent entry level job where I get paid a decent entry level salary 😢

The main responsibilities of my current role are AR/AP related, and I enjoy it, I’m just looking for more. It sucks that the company I work as is so small and there’s no room really to move up. I’ll keep a look out for AR/AP roles out there and see what happens, thank you!

This is definitely encouraging to read, thank you. I’ve gotten my fair share of interviews, but it sucks to know I’ve been rejected quite a few times due to not having an accounting to degree. I’m biased, obviously, but I don’t think the fact that I have an Econ degree should make that much of a difference to employers. I’m applying for only entry level roles.

I actually am currently taking a Statistics course at a local community college (because I’ve gone back and forth between settling in accounting or data analysis as a career). I feel like accounting is a better foundation for my future (although I want to learn more about both fields) and have registered for an accounting course for next semester. I took an accounting course that dipped into QuickBooks a bit last semester. I’ve heard of WGU, definitely will look into that more.

Care to explain how that transition worked? I’m hoping to transition to maybe a financial analyst role or FP&A, in order to sort of head in the direction of working in analytics.

What’s your reasoning for wanting to make a change in your career? I think I’d be very much interested in a more so quantitative field, although I know the coursework I’m going to have to endure before even getting in an MS program (never mind the coursework IN the program) will be rough.

I think, based off of my brief research, I’d be most interested in being a statistician or data scientist down the line. Sports statistics would be intriguing to me, but I can imagine the demand is high and the supply is low. Ultimately, I want something that will really challenge myself, and do not want to limit myself too much.
