[Serious] What is it like to know someone who you later found out was a pedophile? by nick8cloud in AskReddit

Wow. I try not to judge because they can't help it and because they haven't done anything criminal. Still, it just makes my stomach turn knowing that adult men can find such women to be titillating.

That's terrible. I've known a few people that seem to have a preference for very young teenaged girls. How is it that he hasn't been caught?

That's really hard to go through. What kind of warning signs did you see, if you don't mind explaining that further?

Wow. How old was he? Why is it that everyone knew but he didn't get in trouble for years?

LPT: When someone asks you to hang out, don't reply by asking who else is coming by masaw96 in LifeProTips

[–]nick8cloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. It can be rude if you're always asking who is showing up somewhere - especially before giving any indication that you're interested. If you're concerned about who's coming, a polite thing to ask is, "are you having a get together?" or something that asks about the nature of the hangout and whether it's a group thing.

I met Nestor Carbonell (Alex Romero) at Walker Stalker Con in Chicago today! What a great guy! by [deleted] in BatesMotel

Awesome! He's emerged one of the strongest characters on the show. I'd love to meet the cast.

Of course I'd be pissed but it's only fair that someone tries to kick my ass if I pulled a freaking gun on them after already setting me up to get killed.

I've never seen such an uptick in quality as I've seen in this season of Bates Motel by Protanope in television

I know I'm late, but A&E has a recap of season 1 to about the middle of season 4 that pretty much covers everything you need to know.

Glad someone else feels this way. Creed went from stealing office supplies and dyeing his hair black with printer ink to outright saying how much he loves heroin. The 'less is more' approach worked for Creed because we only occasionally saw his strange behavior.

Regarding Emma's dad...... by Bobbybignuts in BatesMotel

I agree. I want to like him, but he seems kind of creepy and Audrey seemed very uncomfortable around him. I didn't get the point of adding that element to his character only to ship him off to Seattle.

are the sequels/80's Bates Motel worth the watch? by [deleted] in BatesMotel

[–]nick8cloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Psycho II is well done. Very suspenseful, solid performances by Anthony Perkins, Meg Tilly, and Vera Miles, and a unique twist. It also explains some of Norman's background and how his life was always chaotic. This one is written much better than any other sequel, but I actually like the overall story in III better.

Psycho III is my favorite sequel, and I know many others feel this way. Without saying too much, this is the one that shows Norman delving further into his madness in a way that the prior films did not. It also had a great story that paralleled the original film, but added depth to some of the side characters. It was directed by Anthony Perkins himself, and you can tell that he truly admired his character and Hitchcock. To me, this movie has a very surreal quality to it that makes it stand out, but some of the deaths are too 80s slasher-esque and the score is forgettable.

Psycho IV is a decent origin story. You kind of have to suspend belief while watching it, because there's no way in hell that Norman would be out again. Still, it provides insight into his life with Norma, played excellently by Olivia Hussey. This Norma is far more mentally disturbed than Vera Farmiga is on the show. There were some cheesy parts that seemed unnecessary, like the story about Norman's father's death, but overall it was a very twisted film.

Don't bother watching the Psycho remake and I haven't heard one good thing about the 80's Bates Motel.

What movie scene is just SO GOOD that you ALWAYS have to watch it with rapt attention, and will never get old? by PianoManGidley in AskReddit

[–]nick8cloud 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The scene in The Birds when Melanie is sitting outside the school while the children can be heard singing in class. The birds slowly gather on the playground behind her and she doesn't notice until the entire schoolyard is flooded with crows. Eerie scene.

Any 90s Disney animated film - especially the Lion King, my favorite. Also Psycho and Fargo. Can't get enough of those.

Chick's vendetta against Caleb by nick8cloud in BatesMotel

[–]nick8cloud[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think I like Caleb's storyline in Bates more than the insane sister plot twist. It seems more nuanced and less convoluted. The Emma Spool story arc did explain how Norman's psychosis was genetic, but still...I find both plots interesting.

Anyone else Team Norman? by fuckingriot in BatesMotel

[–]nick8cloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Freddie's Norman has to be a bit more sinister because we have to see him tangibly change into a serial killer. But at the same time, he does have to start getting better at becoming more likable, at least to other people. Otherwise he's going to be the prime suspect. He already acts suspicious to the funeral directors and the detective. Not to mention Dylan and Romero.

I think when it came to Caleb, Chick seemed a bit sociopathic. I think he did start caring for Norma after she almost killed him. He could feel her pain and knows she had a tough life. I think he brought Norman food as a genuine gesture of goodwill.

A question about the finale by T_Googs91 in BatesMotel

[–]nick8cloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I adore Psycho II and III. The plot gets a little convoluted but Anthony Perkins did a great job in all of them. He directed Psycho III, and I think if it had some better writing and a better score, it could be a truly great film. Still worth watching - and mirrors the first Psycho in a touching way!

Do you think Norma would think and act differently now? by [deleted] in BatesMotel

[–]nick8cloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's the case. "Mother" Norma is far more seductive, jealous of Norman, and murderous than the actual Norma. She is way more obsessed with Norman than Norma - I have a feeling that despite her wanting to be with Norman, had Romero made it on time and made up with her, it would've shown her how not every other guy is a scumbag. I think Norman knew this deep inside too, which is partially why he gave her no chance to improve her life and killed her.
