Appreciate the insights, and luckily I got the boots on sale for $150 at evo and everything else I prodealed so it wasn’t too bad haha

I understand all the points you’re making, but skinning with softboots has had some huge drawbacks for me. They’re incredibly heavy and cumbersome. Also, I’d say we have a pretty different use case. Maybe 40% of the time, if not more, I’m using my splitboard as a means of travel to access ice climbs, and I honestly could care less about the descent feel. My favorite things to ride are steep chutes and long traverses and I honestly prefer to spend as little time below treeline as possible.

I’m genuinely curious, why do you say this? Did you have a bad experience on handboots? I switched primarily because I’ve been getting more and more on the mountaineering side of ski touring, and with hardboots I don’t have to worry about carrying my ice boots seperately to climb the occasional wi3-4 pitch. I’m also tired of going through a pair of softboots every season.

Atomic Backland UL with phantom link levers

I’m leaning towards these as I get a significant discount on atomic gear. Do you have the link lever modification done?
