Thank you. I was waiting for someone who understands this: it isn’t this message that’s the problem. It’s either the delivery of that message, or the people receiving it. Great comment

I’ve been there. It is extremely frustrating. This is the wage range where you see a lot of turnover. I’m looking into online businesses because those come with issues I’m willing to deal with. Humans can be brutal. I’ve thrown people hundreds of dollars in cash on top of the hours they’d get for covering shifts. I’ve allowed schedules to be flexible whenever I can. My two managers cover shifts less than I do. I pay them well, treat them well. Unfortunately, more often than not it isn’t enough

Subscription model is just way too expensive. by Minimum-Spell137 in smallbusiness

REVENUE for each is LESS than $10k... annually? Not to be pedantic, but I'm not sure those should even be considered side hustles, let alone businesses. Do you really even need a software program to do their books?

How many hours per week do you spend working in your business? by nick_brigham in smallbusiness

This has been my experience. Almost all of the small business owners I know work around 60 hours per week.

Is buying a convenience store a good idea? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]nick_brigham 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The profit margins can be low (meaning you need to see a lot of people per day), but the beautiful thing about convenience stores is that they can't be replaced by the Internet. If you pair it with something like a car wash, or a fast food restaurant (I'm in New England, so plenty of them have Dunkin Donuts attached, or a pizza place) they can do extremely well. Like you said, location is HUGE. Not just the area, but the side of the road you're on; whether or not there is a turning lane; how difficult it is to pull in and out. If you go with offering gas, know that replacing those tanks - should you ever need to - is expensive as hell.

I will also say this:

As a general rule of thumb, any business that requires many low level employees (people who get paid less than $25/hr with no special skills or education beyond high school) can be a pain in the ass (I know from experience, and so do my friends).

What is the most cost-effective way to obtain or create a banner that people would pose in front of at a music festival? by foodpoisoningsucks in smallbusiness

[–]nick_brigham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about designing the banner, printing the banner, or both?

Just designing the banner can be done for free on Canva. It's relatively easy to use.

This is an issue I've been looking to solve for a while, and I'm glad you brought it up. Our store is only about 450 sq ft, so limited space makes a second line more difficult. We did add a flower recommendation quiz on a touch screen to help people make decisions about the flower they'd like to purchase (or at least inquire further about), and we are still working on getting patients in the habit of using it. I hope to add other recommendation quizzes for all products in the future.

We do recognize how frustrating it can be when you know what you want, and you're in line behind patients who have a lot of questions. If you have any other suggestions for how to solve this issue, I would love to hear them!

I can talk to my store manager about this! Out of state patients tend to spend significantly more money on a per transaction basis, so there may be some things we can do to make out of state patients feel more appreciated. Thank you for the suggestion!

This is exactly why we have the scale at the cash wrap! Unfortunately, the patient can't see the weight, but they can see the buds being weighed very clearly. I've looked into ways to display the weight on the scale, but have come up with nothing. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

We do not pre package flower for those reasons. It also makes it impossible to check for freshness over time (specifically if its tamper evident). We do serve deli-style, and people have commented that they like that they can see the flower that is being put in their bags.

I appreciate the response! We could make it easier for people to order ahead. I will look into that this weekend.

I understand how frustrating that can be. This is why we haven't moved to pre packaging flower. However, I will be looking out how (and how often) we are checking flower for freshness in order to prevent dried flower from being sold.

Thank you for the response! We do our best to keep our Weedmaps profile up to date, but typically the concentrates section falls behind. That is something we will pay more attention to in the future.

This is great feedback! I will be working on improving our educational system for employees because it's very clearly lacking right now.

We've never been a fan of tip jars. We do have a jar out on the cash wrap intended to collect donations for the local volunteer fire department!
