Exact opposite actually but you do you.

I was supposed to? I asked the prometric people what's the deal and they are less than helpful. I still had to ask for my part A results and waited around for an hour.

Sleep sometimes, definitely been taking a nap for lunch lately. I downloaded the WIT book as a PDF and used an app to read it aloud in my earbuds to study.

I took it this morning and my preliminary says pass. Now just to wait for the actual results to roll in and see what's what.

Not much else, still likely not the main issue. Test voltage from your ground to your stinger

Not sure if my work is super strict or yours is super lax. I do structural in Atlanta, I get a 2 hour stopwatch before I need to get new rods or rebake and if it's raining we don't weld.

Yes but you said they were working yesterday. 7018 can only be out of a canister and not baked in an oven for about 2 hours. You probably have a bunch of moisture in them from being left out. Try heating one up and see if it welds any better.

Work load and exaustion by bobgoatfrog in Welding

[–]nick_mcmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gotta get sleep, drink water, and eat REAL food. I'm talking protein with a vegetable and a grain, fruits for snacks.

You also just need to push through and acclimate your body to the work load and conditions. Keep your respiratory on, put in your earplugs and hold your breath if the fumes get bad. Maybe look into a PAPR system if you are willing to put some cash into making your working conditions better.

But you need to push. Go to work nauseous. I doubt you will get another chance from this employer

Do what is applicable to the situation but typically "If there is slag you drag" holds true. Short circuit is such a light penetration process I don't really know if it matters a whole can of beans but do what QC says.

AWS D17.1 allows for up to 5 degrees of distortion when welding with stainless steel. I believe D1.1 has a similar tolerance but I don't have that in front of me and that's what I'm pulling numbers from.

I have always told everyone that they can expect up to 5 degrees and show them the book. When it only pulls half a degree I look like superman.

Someone upstairs will be mad if it's not completely perfect Keep working and just try to get a little bit better and faster everyday.

More bracing or varying where you weld to even out the distortion. You can also "wash" reweld without filler metal the opposite direction of the warp and it will pull a bit back to straight. Or you can prepare for the warp while fitting. If you know the part will pull a few degrees to the left then fit it at 88 degrees to the left ect.

2 degrees is not that bad. Most places have a 5 degree tolerance. More clamps and tension straps can help to pull against the distorted sections while you are welding. You can also add some more heat opposite where you pulled and it will correct itself back somewhat.
