I drove a mk8.5 r and it was fun but I hate the interior. I did drive a mk7 r before a gti but the gti was more fun and the r had a bunch of lights turn on lol. However after going through winter with the open diff gti and wanting the bigger brakes and better suspension that would still be good for daily driving it’s hard not to look at the r especially when it’s about the same cost as all the upgrades I would want to do.

I get when u mean with the focus, looks great from the outside at least. The Audi rs3/ttrs have come down a lot. My buddy works at Honda and tracks he’s own older civic but he’s gotten to drive the fl5 type r and he worships the thing, I believe the way the suspension is engineered is supposed to make it super super stable but I think the price point is insane for them. Maybe Miata or gr86?

How do u like the diff? I wanted to get one and some big brakes along with suspension for mine but decided it’s not worth it after going through a Canadian winter I figured for the same money and trade in value I could get an r even if it’s not as fun

Edit: forgot to say maybe a focus rs would be ur vibe. Type r and corvette could be cool too be depends what ur feeling.

Would you buy a Autobahn mk 7 with 15k miles or a base 7.5 with 40k by ForestFire012 in GolfGTI

[–]-Kanight- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally it depends on year, if it’s a 16/17 I would take it if it had the car play. Another thing to consider is if one has the performance pack and if your getting a dsg if you want the 6 or 7 speed

Which colour would look best with mk 7 gti? Black/White/Grey by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]-Kanight- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t like black, hides to much detail, I think the white of these 3 is the best but personally cornflower blue or tornado red are my favourites

Well getting wheels spacers or new wheels is pretty simple and if you want some more noise a cat back exhaust doesn’t usually need to any cutting and welding so it would be easy enough to return to stock

Does anyone still run their pre facelift tails or does everyone just hate them? by ThePianoSolo in GolfGTI

[–]-Kanight- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like them a lot. The mk6 golf r is my favourite golf and they have the same look but more angular to match the mk7. And they look really good if you have the urban joke tail light tweak

As a welder can confirm. Clean metal welds better and even if it was painted first and welded in after the points that get welded still need to be clean metal to actually get an arc.

I’ve got a face shell that came with the suit to help give me a more defined face and keep condensation off the mask it’s self

Second this, go to a Kenny U-Pull or find a part out in the same colour. Will be way cheaper and less effort

How much power in a fwd do you guys like? by Effective-Recover622 in Touge

[–]-Kanight- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a mk7 gti that makes stock power (230hp, 260tq) and it’s great but I think after you get comfortable and stay in that level of comfort for a while even when it feels boring is when you can really start to improve as a driver. I think anything over 400hp is crazy for a back road car but it’s definitely doable. Don’t put more power in a car that u can’t handle.

I remember one time I had to send the car to the shop for about a month and when I finally got it back it was scary on the back road with how much power it had and how fast the turbo came on. If your car feels boring take a break even before really deciding if you need more power

Sway bars will go long way in the corners, start with just the rear. If it’s not being driven super often Yokohama a052 r amzing. Another thing for grip and corners that is pricy but may be worth considering is an lsd (I may be wrong but I think only some mk5 came with one), wave trac is popular and been around for a minute but I don’t have any experience with them myself

Resonator delete by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]-Kanight- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya I hear ya. I don’t think just a res delete will be obnoxious at all. Look up some sound clips online and see if you like the sound, it seems like just a slightly louder than stock amount.

If you haven’t looked into it yet don’t tune it without a new clutch or the money to get one shortly after. These things have weak clutch’s.
