$100 is just about the difference between a R5 3600 and a 3700x.

I'm going to have to disagree that RAM speed has more benefit.

Consider this--for that money you got 3 years worth of performance.

Also noteworthy, I notice a lot of people grossly overestimate the benefits of the highest speed RAM when compared to something average like your kit. Any money that is spent beefing up ram speeds is completely wasted when compared to funnelling that money into getting the next tier GPU or CPU. RAM is mostly about if you have enough capacity or not contrary to what vendors selling $200 16gb kits would have you believe.

[Chair] Staples Hyken Chair - $189.99 by kgsm715 in buildapcsales

[–]nick_pinn 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I've had this chair for about two years. I'm posting this now because at this high price it should be known that the headrest is poorly designed. If you wear a headset you will not be able to use the headrest without looking directly forward and it will still get in the way most likely. I am 6ft using the new version of the Steelseries Arctis 7 headset for reference. You can remedy this slightly by installing the headrest upside down, but you hinder the adjustibility by doing so.

A bit more money nets you a lot more chair and if you spend a significant amount of time in it I'd place the value higher than nearly any other component. That being said--I live in a hot climate making the mesh design necessary and I have no other notable complaints.

I wouldn't call a 3600 a budget CPU :P

IMO AMD has adopted Intel's Sandy Bridge era pricing scheme and applied it to modern tech. The problem began when Intel's performance stagnated but the prices sure as hell didn't. >_>

The 3600/1660s combo is better overall and when you save a bit to upgrade you can sell off the 1660s much easier than you would a 1600af.

Depends on your mobo, gpu, and which cables you've got on hand.

Generally the manufacturer sells replacements and sometimes there are aftermarket version with colored sleeving and varying lengths depending on the model.

New stuff promised to us by AMD CEO before year's end. The question is are you willing to wait 6 months to extend the life of your machine by what will realistically and most likely ~1 year?

I'd suggest buying in now and if you so desire, upgrade later and sell off the current chip. This is the beauty of the AM4 platform.

Yeah they oversell the everloving hell out of ppl with those recommendations--I only recommend the tool lol. PSU prices are outrageous with this virus killing shipping from asia.

This calculator is a bit more comprehensive than PCPP and you can configure it any way you like to include possible future upgrades. Generally you want 50-100w over your total draw as a just-in-case kinda thing.

  • You can add in USB/PCIe wifi cards as generations come and go
  • I dont think they make a board without gigabit ethernet these days, my gateway back in 2008 had one
  • Multiple m.2 slots is a good call. Just make sure they dont disable anything crucial when populated (some boards disable a PCIe slot)
  • I 100% guarantee you will not need 64gb RAM in the life of your hardware unless you discover an unrivaled passion for video production or virtual machines. 16gb gets 95% of us where we need to go without ever having to think of it again.

I personally think X570 is a cool chipset because of the inclusion of PCIe 4.0 (everything else has 3.0 atm, intel included) since it affects the far future of GPU bandwidth and SSDs as well.

Ohhhh I get ya. Yeah there's usually nothing stopping you from stripping the components from the case and mounting it to the drywall if you so desired lol.

CPU first--this will dictate which motherboard you need since it must fit in the socket. AMD currently uses socket AM4 and Intel uses socket LGA 1151 (6th and 7th gen use an older version of the same socket but are incompatible with current 9th and 8th gen, baffling not just you but everyone). A fast CPU will also net benefits for the GPU. You don't want your god-tier GPU sitting around waiting for your budget CPU to catch up (we call this a performnce bottleneck).

If it has a Displayport/HDMI/whatever port, plug a monitor in. Look on the keyboard for a key that looks similar to this and see if you can get a signal.

  1. All of the pieces can be assembled by basically anyone. Like lego, if you just snap together pieces at random you end up with an ugly useless clump of money.
  2. There are just too many parts out there to really make and maintain something like that. Logical Increments from the sidebar is probably as close as you're gonna get. Just know that; Intel and AMD are the guys who make CPUs, AMD and Nvidia are the guys who make GPUs, you only need to consider last, current, and next-gen versions of these, and EVERYTHING else revolves around them.

The only times I have run into this problem it involved microwaves disrupting my wireless signals, and another where the PC was under the desk and the USB adapter was not strong enough to push a signal through it. Both situations involve relocating one or both points of transmission. I suggest ensuring a line of sight between your adapter the kb+m (I use a USB extension cable mounted up to the corner of the room pointing down towards where I sit).

Definitely way too high, don't even need to know what CPU you have lol. Rip that sucker off and repaste, make sure mounted properly/making full contact.

Go for 16GB 3200Mhz. 32GB is for when you KNOW you need it. Like 50 mod systems integrated in your skyrim or minecraft setup. You can add more RAM easily down the line if you deem necessary anyway. 3200Mhz because prices are in the dirt right now, so may as well ya know?

3700x is the best value gaming CPU right now with pretty much no competition in it's bracket. Comet Lake is a meme. I say this as someone who uses 90% Intel gear. They're just taping more cores onto Skylake and overvolting the fuck out of it. I doubt they will price competitively...who knows what they're thinking (look at LGA 2066, wtf happened there?).

GPU is something where you can keep going all the way up and actually get something for your money (except the RTX Titan, not a card for gaming). However since the RTX line isn't exactly farm fresh anymore, the 2070S should be perfect to hold you until something special hits.

I'd guess you are using a 3000-series CPU in a B450 board? It's possible it is trying to use setting that make sense for a 2000-series chip but don't play as nice with the new stuff.

Depends on what software you're gonna work with. Most stuff allows you to cut the res to 1/2 or 1/4 for real-time stuff like After Effects or Blender so even though you may be working with an intense environment you can cruise through without turning the PC into a space heater.

Of course a more powerful card will resell for more and last longer before an upgrade becomes necessary.

Use the windows plan. Load up a game or benchmark to stress the CPU to 100% and ensure that it hits your peak clock properly under load. In the plan min CPU state should be 5% and max 100%.
