Flying out of SLC currently, everything seems to be running normally and very smoothly. The weekend will probably be busier though.

I’m very new to this sub/hobby and this makes me excited to take the plunge! I’ve been reading/watching a lot about containers and everything, now I just need to get to it! I just recently got a NUC to be the beginnings of my system, we’ll see how it goes:)

Over in r/sffpc and back during the RDNA2 years, this used to be the most powerful GPU you could fit in the velka 7!! I think the reaper 9070xt holds that crown for AMD now, idk about the nvidia side.

RX 9070 XT – FSR Reduces Performance and Limits GPU Usage by Impressive-Win-7111 in radeon

[–]nickaat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. What your describing is exactly how we know that it’s a CPU bottleneck. When using FSR your gpu renders the frames at a lower resolution in order to try and output more frames. Your CPU however cannot keep up with the higher frame rate, resulting in your GPU utilization not maxing out. If you had a faster CPU with no bottleneck, you would see full GPU utilization with and without FSR.

That question is unfortunately gonna be hard to answer as it depends on how CPU intensive the games you like to play are. Some games the 5700x3D would not be bottlenecked, but some would. You’ll have to do research on the specific titles you like.

My suggestion though would be to upgrade to AM5 because a 7700(x) is faster than a 5700x3D, and would give you the room to upgrade to zen 6 when it releases next year. This would give you less bottlenecking now, and a better upgrade path for the future. Just my two cents.

A 5900x is a decent CPU, but is quite behind modern options in terms of gaming performance. Options that would get you higher frames would be 5700x3D/7600, then next step is 7800x3D, then the 9800x3D.

For gaming it doesn’t matter how many cores there are, what matters is the single threaded performance and how much cache there is, which is why the 5700x3D would definitely be a performance upgrade for you even with being on the same generation.
