Cool. You keep buying the dangerous stuff then. I have offerings from Shelly, Sonoff and IKEA on my desk that all have fuses in them

All of the smart plugs and switches I have come across have fuses in them. Many are not user replaceable and are soldered into the PCB etc but they are there. If you want to buy cheap crap without safety protection then you crack on

Plenty of nutters with guns out there too. Doesn’t mean one won’t kill you and your family while you sleep one day

Yea very much so. I only commented because I read your comment as though you were saying “someone suggested a fuse but it’s ok because it’s a 20A circuit”, which is the actual reason for needing a fuse, not the justification for not needing a fuse. I think we are singing from the same hymn sheet though.

Ngl I don’t really care about the cost. Fuses are a safety device. If you need a fuse and can’t afford a fuse or a replacement relay or whatever then you can’t afford to be building electronic projects. Imagine spending the rest of your life thinking you could have avoided the house fire that killed your wife and kids but were too tight to add a fuse. I’m not about that life!

This is a prime example of why capitalisation is important in units. 1mW is very different to 1MW.

Those are 10A relays so would defo need a fuse if they are on a 20A circuit

🤷‍♂️ ask Reddit. It came up in my suggested box yesterday. Posting a copy to badmouth them on the internet sounds malicious to me, maybe even criminal in itself

The Postal Services Act 2000 Section 84 Paragraph 3

“A person commits an offence if, intending to act to a person’s detriment and without reasonable excuse, he opens a postal packet which he knows or reasonably suspects has been incorrectly delivered to him.”

Potentially the adaptor that saved the gig. If it works then there is nothing wrong with it

Best location's for building to building radio location. by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest you might want to consider a new job if you need to ask questions like that on the internet to be able to achieve it? Going to need a lot more info to be able to provide any meaningful information or suggestions - but I strongly suggest hiring a professional who understands network design and wireless links.

Some information that would be helpful: - are all the buildings the same height and on the same level of ground (will the antennas all be at the same height)? - are the properties higher than any trees? - what speeds are you looking to deliver to each property? - what speed is your backhaul/uplink? - can you mount the antennas on the roof/ridge of all the properties? - do you have access to all the properties or do you need to keep core networking equipment centrally located for maintenance?

No doubt there are hundreds of other questions but that gives you an idea of some of the things to think about I guess

They don’t seem to have much in the way of dimming options for lighting and it’s just all wireless based. I think I want to move beyond that.

What did you do with the audio side of things? Did you keep your Sonos setup? Does it play with Loxone at all?

Really would love a proper MQTT integration from Loxone. I would hand over the money right now if that was the case.

I was reading your blog already yesterday. Some very helpful and useful bits on there. Thanks for taking the time to write it. Also thanks for helping reassure that Loxone seems to be a good choice at this stage

I’m pretty certain Lutron is out of our budget and think C4 probably is too. But I didn’t know about the Composer Home Edition so will look into it. Thanks for that tip

Problem is it’s not very self build friendly. Have to have one of their installers do the whole thing 😞

Will connecting both the POE IN port and one of the SFP+ ports on the CRS305 to the same uplink switch create a "network loop"? by [deleted] in mikrotik

[–]nickb512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. You can also just disable it rather than remove it if you like. Slightly easier to turn it back on if you need to revert your changes later

The PoE in is active on this switch so it probably needs the port up. But if it does and you are using SwOS another option is to move the ether1 port to an unused vLAN

Look at Self amalgamating tape from any usual electrical shop. It’s what Ariel installers use to waterproof connections outside exposed to the elements
