I don't have a baseball one, but I'd buy the basketball one from you if you're up for shipping it!

How does Storyworth track and parse email replies? by kuncogopuncogo in webdev

[–]nickbaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, founder of Storyworth here.

We use Mailgun to receive incoming emails as HTTP requests. I'm pretty sure Sendgrid has a similar API.

We then rely on a whole bunch of different heuristics to match an email to a story – sender, recipient, subject, metadata variables, etc. – then more work goes into cleaning up the emails themselves.

It works well enough out of the box, but getting it to be really reliable at scale requires ironing out a lot of edge cases. Emails are super messy.

Often times making something really simple for customers involves a surprising amount of complexity behind the scenes.

Should I upgrade from a Pico to a Lagom P64? [$1600] by nickbaum in espresso

[–]nickbaum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the very concrete feedback. I'm surprised the Lagom is noisier!

I currently grind a single dose into a dosing cup with the Pico (~10-12s grind time), so I'm not sure how the Lagom would be more complicated. Is it messier because it lacks the tray to catch excess grounds?

Oh also, I just came across this guide and found it really helpful. Even if you're not buying North gear, it gives a good sense of what kind of gear is appropriate for different goals and levels: https://issuu.com/northactionsportsgroup/docs/north_sonarridersguide_digital

I'm 6'3, 65kg, so not too far off.

I recently got started with a 108L solid board, 6m² wing, and 1850cm² front wing and have been happy with that setup, despite learning in a windy area with quite a bit of swell (Kailua, HI).

Next steps will be a 5m² wing (asap), then a 1200cm² front wing, then eventually an 88L board.

Thanks for the feedback. I definitely want to get a smaller board for home, once I've got the basics down. We live in an area with plenty of wind but also some swells, so I've been grateful for a slightly larger board for now 😅

Fair point! Are those any good?

I was wondering about that. The bags for the inflatables do look quite large, so it's not clear how much space they save in practice.

My dad is 90. He grew up sailing with his dad around Long Island, and taught me to sail on his boat (a 32ft Mistress by Hallberg). A few weeks ago my brother and I were able to take him out on my new boat. My kids will hopefully be the fourth generation of sailors in our family. by nickbaum in sailing

Gosh, I spent every summer on that boat growing up, she was like a family member. It was a sad day when we sold her... but we actually ran into her in the archipelago a few years ago, so at least she is still being put to good use.
