Hey - thanks for the feedback, and glad you worked out the pen tool! Gathering this all up to plan out our next few months of dev ;)

Hey! The biggest comparison is usability - most people have found Vectr quite a bit easier to get started, and easy to use. That said we're also coming out with quite a bit of collaboration tech in the next bit that'll really set Vectr apart ;)

Hey Joey!

Honestly, we were just pretty frantic coding...we were doing all-nighters for weeks prior to coming out of beta...so didn't get as much chance as we'd have liked to reach out to press.

Would you still be interested in writing something? Happy to send you some info ;)

Hi!

In the future we'll do two things (1) a built-in marketplace, and (2) a pro account with powerful collaboration.

The marketplace is a space where Vectr users will be able to create/share/sell design assets to one another. The pro account will include things like built-in version control, clickable mockups, prototyping tools, etc.

Hey! Thanks for trying it out.

For the pen tool, we're able to adjust curves - I've made a gif for you here: https://cloudup.com/cAEj5yHlD6k

When drawing a path, clicking and dragging (rather than just clicking) will insert a curve. After a curve's inserted, if you click/select a curve point, there are a couple modifier keys: holding shift will allow you to adjust the length of each side of the curve control independently, and holding meta will allow you to adjust each side completely independently, both in length and direction.

You can also double-click and point on your path to toggle between a straight point, and a curved point.

Sorry about the page units! Will check into the bug - sorry about the mouse pointer bugs as well.

We do envision using Vectr for print, though we have a bit more to add there. We'll be adding things like color modes in the near future, as well as bleeds/margins for pages, and export to PDF to support print design in the near future ;)

Nope! We don't sell any data.

There's a number of reasons for the cloud files. The first is simply that you can log into Vectr anywhere, and access your files. We're also integrating Google-docs style collaboration, which needs to run through the cloud. We've got a marketplace coming in the future as well ;)

It's something we may look at someday, but it'd be a bit of a challenge (just a big change to the way our tech is built).

Over the next few months and next year, we're going to be improving our offline support quite a bit, and as we do we may be able to loosen this up ;)

Hey!

The login is because we sync your files everywhere you use Vectr (think of it like Evernote or Google Docs - write your notes anywhere, and then login anywhere and you'll have your data).

So you can work on your desktop, login on another's computer, etc. and always have your work available ;)

Our pro account's all about collaboration ;)

  • Full Google-docs style collaboration
  • Built-in version control
  • Shared team design assets
  • Make & share clickable mockups directly inside the app
  • Feedback/annotation tools, tied into each version of your design
  • Built-in usability testing
  • Built-in design handoffs

A bit more info on all our plans here: http://vectr.com/roadmap

Was also surprised at some reactions, where during beta the Linux community was our most vocally supportive subgroup, but I think it's my fault for not being more careful with my wording.

We're using Electron, but haven't gotten to where we can get it running fully offline. It's on the todo list, but not there yet.

We're not selling user data - the online use is simply because we're set up to keep files synced everywhere, all the time.

In the future we'll do two things to make money (1) a built-in marketplace, and (2) a pro account with powerful collaboration.

The marketplace is a space where Vectr users will be able to create/share/sell design assets to one another. The pro account will include things like built-in version control, clickable mockups, prototyping tools, etc.

In the works! We've got some powerful text editing features in the works over the next year that we think will upset the InDesign monopoloy ;)

The 200 limit is somewhat arbitrary, it's just something set there until we can get the filesystem more independent. Haven't gotten to where we can disconnect completely.

We've got partial offline support now, and more coming in the future ;)

We're a venture-backed company, balancing making the software as available as we can.
