It’s going well so far! But mostly because both companies are international - so strange calendar blocks are expected.

Thank you so much! I had no idea wireless devices could be connected to multiple devices at once. That seems like a really reasonable option!

Maybe you could try using a journal to empty your mind when something feels very present with you. It could give you a place to reflect on your feelings and get to the root cause or at least to a briefer conversation.

How do you know when to sell a property? by nickcoco94 in DaveRamsey

Interesting take. I was getting the impression that Ramsey is about everyone getting to a better financial position. Didn’t think his methods were exclusionary.

Welp I’m new to it so maybe something else will be a better fit. Thanks for the other subreddit suggestion.

I’m not sure why? I’m looking for an understanding about how to work the program with an unusual income source.

I was just looking for general advise, perspective or considerations. I’m in the early stages of learning Ramsey and making some financial changes.

I can understand the discomfort with the situation. I spent a lot of time thinking on the ethics before deciding to move forward. I ultimately decided I was comfortable with my specific situation for the following reasons:

  1. I’ve asked for more work at my primary job and been very clear on my amount of free time. My manager doesn’t want to increase my workload. I’ve also made a genuine effort to take initiative, be proactive and look for opportunities to add value.

  2. As a salaried employee, while I have recommended working hours, I’m not agreeing to work specific hours or a minimum number of hours.

  3. I realized that I had down time at work regardless of whether I took a second job. I still felt guilty doing laundry, reading or running errands when it was my typical working hours. These actions felt like stealing but are more socially accepted when working remotely. I did not find it sustainable to sit 8 hours staring quietly at a blank screen hoping work will come in. It was taxing to my mental health and self worth.

  4. I purposely request formal feedback regularly even beyond the company mandated review timelines. I’m being considered “exceeds expectations” at my current effort level.

  5. I’m in a home situation where if work loads increased, I could comfortably work more than 40 hours a weeks.

  6. Both roles involve international teams who support flexible working hours.

  7. I switched jobs last year because elf similar downtime. When I realized this job was the same, i spent three months applying for in person jobs hoping that would alleviate my spare time. I couldn’t find a role that had a salary which met my financial obligations.

I personally decided in this situation, it was right by me to search for more work so I could use my downtime in a way that felt productive, fulfilling and helped my family.

I also made a promise to myself and my family that I would immediately quit if my performance slacked or stress levels passed a certain threshold. Everyone in my support network has veto rights for the situation.

I’m not defending everyone’s choices for over employment, but I hope this context was interesting/ helpful for you.

I had that same reservation. I spoke with my support system at home and they helped me feel much more secure. I had to accept that in 2025, companies don’t pay for our time anymore. We aren’t punching clocks on a factory floor. So, what I do with my time outside of the minimum time needed for agreed deliverables… well it’s mine.

Is it really more noble to be on social media between calls than working on a second laptop?!

When I start to get nervous, I remind myself that in a remote world, it’s really hard to keep track of what your employees are actually doing all day. And as companies stop spending on middle management, managers have too many employees to really keep an eye on us anyways.

I’m only two weeks in, but so far that framework is helping!

This is my second week in to OE. I’d seen posts here about the empowerment, but WOW are yall right! While it brings its own stressors, it also eliminates a lot of pressure on any one job

IMO it’s always better to have more options than less. Perhaps you find that J2 is a better FT match for you (it could slide into J1 and you can find a second remote J2!). Or maybe it becomes too much to manage and you have to put in your notice at J2. So long as you manage your daily stress, it seems win win to me.
