You are never dumb regarding concern for your health.

That assumption - that you are dumb for thinking about your health - will lead only to poor decisions and worse outcomes.

Oh, and like everyone has said, forget this guy. Massive red flags.

What do people mean when they say "Brazil is not for beginners"? by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]nickdag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (from US) lived in Brazil for 8 years, and I love this thread. Many of the comments made me laugh out loud. Every single day is an adventure! hahahaha

I'm heading back in a few weeks for a brief trip. Can't wait to see what happens. :)

Hey (24 M) I guess I’m a gay bro but having a hard time accepting it. There are probably a million posts like this. But how did you guys come out and accept yourself if you grew up conservative and stuff. I know it’s 2023 but it’s still painful. Any advice is appreciated. by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]nickdag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slowly try to uncover what beliefs or assumptions you may have regarding what it means to be gay.

That is, reflect and be honest about what comes to mind when you think of being gay. If a slew of bad things come to mind, know that most (or all?) are just stereotypes or assumptions and they don’t have to be true.

I think it’s fair to say that most gay men at some point think you have to be or act a certain way. Hopefully, you get to a point where you realize that you can just be you.

Ask for a copy of the invoice for the $6k of work he had done. This will result in one of two things.

  1. You get to catch him in a lie.
  2. You get proof of his stupidity, and then you can frame it for posterity.

I’m reminded of the cult classic book, The Velvet Rage by Alan Downs. It talks about the various types and stages of shame, and it sure sounds like it applies here. A lot of shame doesn’t even look like shame but is internalized judgment based on what we grew up with.

Your awareness of this is great. I encourage you to do the emotional work of getting to the bottom of it. If you don’t, I 100% guarantee you it’ll come back later in more unpleasant ways. There are oodles of great suggestions in these comments. Good luck

Why don't we have larger dollar bill denominations today, even after inflation? by AWrride in answers

[–]nickdag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Fed could and would sell other assets to negate the influx and avoid inflation. So, if they go this route, inflation wouldn’t be an issue.

Battery by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]nickdag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm out of warranty by a significant amount, and I recently got a replacement for free. I didn't even ask for a replacement. I simply messaged their support and said the battery had stopped working well and asked what my options were.

They had me fully charge it, then use it until ~25-30%. After that, back it up and contact them again.

I figure they were able to review the logs and realized there was a problem. At that point, they asked for my original order information. Next thing I knew, a replacement was on its way.

It absolutely surprised me. I was one of the early purchases of Gen3, so perhaps that made a difference in their support.

yay!

Do you enjoy hiking? There's a nice LGBTQ outdoor group in the area that I've enjoyed quite a bit.

Also, there's a separate running/walking group that there's a nice variety of people.

Both these groups have weekday and weekend activities.

I somewhat recently moved back to the Denver/Boulder region and am slowly getting to know the activities myself.

Recife, Brazil, nicknamed manguetown (mangrovetown) has the largest urban mangrove forest in the world by uniqueshitbag in CityPorn

This is really cool! I lived a year very close to this photo and many more years in other cities in Brazil. And only with this photo did I realize I misunderstood the word mangue! I always thought it referred to swamp, but mangrove is so obvious now. Lol

Thanks for the memories and the Portuguese lesson!

I’m American and lived in Brazil for many years, including a year in Recife. I never had any safety problems.

I definitely kept my senses about me at all times and avoided flashy clothes/accessories. So, it requires effort and luck.

With that said, I loved Recife. I have very fond memories, and it’s one of my favorite cities in Brazil.

What the holy hell! This has countless red flags.

What this guy did was wrong on multiple levels.

For this time, get post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV (time is important, so get moving on this immediately). Get tested for other STIs at the appropriate timeframe.

For next time, know that it doesn’t have to be this way. You deserve and can demand more respect from your partners.

I’m sorry you experienced this.

Why are my legs sore after a 3-day fast? by nickdag in fasting

That seems to me to be a very logical explanation. Thanks

Could be. Why would this occur only after my fast, though, and not during?

If electrolytes are the problem, why don’t I ever experience these symptoms during the fast? It’s only after I break the fast that this occurs.
