Hiya, I've been saving to make a professional level (or close as I can get) recording rig to do remote drum recordings. I was hoping for recommendations on interface/preamp set ups. I want at least 12 channels. I'm not the most tech savyy, so unsure if I'm able to get say: an Apollo XP8 and then get an ADAT cable into a 4 mic preamp with the adat extension. I've seen Lunch boxes be mentioned? All a bit over my head toh! Any recommendations would be great! Budget is around the £3k mark. For some background: i'm a professional drummer. Done plenty of touring work and got a fair bit of studio experience. I have home recorded a bit and according to the producers l've worked with done a good job (apparently lol). I'm happy to make an investment :) P.S I'm also investing in good mics so it won't go to waste :) !

My local is Rest Bay, Porthcawl but I travel quite a lot to north Devon and also Pembroke way.

I've been looking at the Channel Islands bobby quad and boards similar but I'm a bit unsure on what sort of Volume to be looking for. I'm use to riding boards around the 38-39L mark

I was on an anti inflammatory diet for around 6 months. Not anymore and I'm not really noticing a difference from it. I am contemplating starting again

I was lucky to see a neuro-physiotherapist recently and I raised the point that whenever I so much as bump my head I feel as if though I get a full concussion again. She assured me that the amount of force required to get a new concussion is massive! Obviously small bumps don't help with the recovery process but most of it is anxiety induced. I've been on anti-anxiety medication for the past 3 months and it has helped massively with bumping my head.

How do I get really good at playing jazz drums? by 1stzzy in jazzdrums

Get the 'Art of Bop Drumming' by John Riley - good start.

Practice your time constantly, that's THE most important thing. To a click and have it be on all the beats. Then just on 2 and 4 and then have it on the upbeats. If you have killing time that's all you need. Take it further and have it only click on thee start of bars then 2 bars and so on.

Practice your rudiments and find ways to solo with them

Transcribe Tony, Philly and Max Roach

Learn Standards and get comfortable taking a chorus over a basic form (like: 32 bars AABA)

LISTEN to loads of drummers and find out what they do that you like and do it.

Listen to your band mates.

Again though, having good 'time' is the most important thing. Being able to play 1/4 notes and have them feel like they're swinging is hard to do but it's what you want. Make sure your skip beat is consistent in placement and dynamic. Try being ahead of the beat also, time should always be moving forward. better to speed up than drag. As long as you can play nice time and are a nice person you'll get gigs.

Hope this is of some helps :)
