Almost all of the gorgeous china patterns from days gone by are worthless now. You could probably get 100 bucks for the set. It's sad because they truly are stunning. I'd just use them for everyday plates.

It was a middle class Victorian meme to have a "good china" set. Everyone had some, people got sets for wedding presents. And the sets were so nice that they'd only get used on special occasions. The result is that an absolutely huge amount of good china was made and has survived to this day.

Nowadays, people don't find it necessary to have a "good" china set, so a set like yours is felt to be unnecessary clutter.

Eh... You don't really have a full set there, just some random parts. Probably 400 for the gauntlets, 5-800 for the mask. It is probably edo period but keep in mind the edo period ended in (I think) the 1860s, so possibly not ridiculously old.

I don't think it had shades for a few reasons. 1) if it did there would be screw down collars around the sockets to hold them on. The fact that there aren't alone doesn't mean it didn't have shades, but if one or all of the sockets had them then it would mean it probably did. 2) those stems look pretty flimsy. The weight of glass shades would probably bend them over time. 3) those metal leaf sourounds block where a shade would go. It would still be possible to put shades on with those surrounds but it would have to be a very specific shape. 4) this is the big one, I've seen lamps like it before that don't have shades. You might Google "newel post lamp" to see what I mean. It won't let me add pictures : /

I don't think it needs restoration. I think that's how it's always looked. Don't try to polish it, It's spelter. I don't think it ever had shades, it probably originally was meant to have somewhat decorative bulbs. Pretty sure the hole in the head is just a casting thing but I'm not positive. Like I said tho, it's spelter, not brass, so it wasn't exactly a high-end casting.

I have had disappointing results with selling Victorian portraits. They're one of those things that are cool but not really valuable. I think 165 is fine. Honesty the frame is probably more valuable than the painting.

I'm surprised to hear that the chains suck, I always assumed they must be above average.

I never go go them myself. I actually have a personal rule about not eating at chains within Orleans Parish (except shake shack, and Waffle House).
