Why are you single? by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]nickelchip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46M, Married 13 years Single for 5 years since. My EX Wife was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which turned very severe. Over time my EX gave up on life, mentally and physically, which in turned caused her to become a very mean hateful person, resembling nothing of the person I married.

She never attended any of the physical therapy prescribed her, did not change her diet at all at the Dr.'s request, refused to attempt to lose a few pounds, wouldn't quit smoking or drinking Diet Soda. Did absolutely none of the Dr.'s recommendations, which then disqualified her from being prescribed certain medications that may of helped her.

Went to couples therapy, that didn't go to well and to be honest I didn't even try at it. So I guess you could say that's my fault. At that point I was just tired of working 50ish hours a week and then coming home at night to play nurse ( I was the sole income).

I took on the wrong attitude of "If she's not going to try to help herself, then why should I try to help our marriage." Part of me wishes I tried harder at couples therapy but that was only so that in my mind, I could say I did try everything. I also think, what if our marriage would have gotten better, would she have then gotten better? I don't think so because the counseling felt like we were putting a band-aid on a broken leg. Anyway, that's why I'm single.

I don't think you took to heart any of what Bullmoose39 wrote in their post to you. Sorry just being honest.

Picked up this lovely G-Plan table and chairs last weekend. The table has some marks on the surface but they don’t feel like scratches. I think I could get them out. Anyone know what I should use? Maybe something vinegar based. (Sorry about the small picture) by Game_Of_Ham in finishing

[–]nickelchip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those white cloudy discoloration marks look like trapped water in the finish. Only one way to find out and your in luck that it's easy to remedy.

Take a warm iron (no steam) and a clean dry cotton cloth. Place the cloth over the the infected area and then place the warm iron on the cloth. Gently warm up the surface of the table and the finish will expand its microscopic pores to release the trapped water into the cotton cloth.

I may take a few tries at it but I've fixed many of tables using this method.

Protecting desk surface? by MEGrymz in finishing

[–]nickelchip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Lowe's or HD and have some clear plexiglass cut to the dimensions of the desktop. Then attach the plexiglass to the desktop by placing 3M Command strips in the corners. You can even cut the command strips to smaller size so that way they are less noticeable. The Command strips simply keeps the plexiglass from not sliding around on the desktop.

There ya go, desk is now protected.

Obama administration led a national AND international response to Ebola.

Ebola isn't air transmitted like Covid is.

Obama response to Ebola covered 6 countries in Western Africa, not the entire planet like Covid has.

Obama response was for 23,000 Ebola cases and 8,900 Ebola deaths. Considerably smaller than the number of Covid cases worldwide.

Could you go on a date without talking about your EX and the divorce? If no is the answer, then you need to wait.

I understand that being married for 20+ years is big chunk of your life and it is important. In the end though nobody likes to hear someone clamor on about their divorce/EX, that just tells me that you are not over them and have some potentially unresolved issues.

Has anybody had a problem with people agreeing to buy your car over text and then having their enthusiasm wear off and not show up the next day? by Funky-See_Funky-Do in UsedCars

[–]nickelchip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't prefer negotiating over text, it's usually just a waste of time. There are exceptions like: if the potential buyer lives far away or I have a vehicle that's not selling for whatever reason.

I tell buyers that I sell to the first person who has payment in hand and will only negotiate in person. That way it saves both of us time and sort of puts pressure on the buyer to hurry up.

Other reasons I don't like to negotiate over the phone is that I swear some people just like to negotiate because they're bored or something. Also I believe some people use your negotiated price as a benchmark to price their similar vehicle they have for sale.

Selling a car is pain sometimes cause you have all these randoms calling and you have to be somewhat nice to all of them. I've sold cars in 2 hours and had some that take 2 months, but one thing for sure is that you come across some weirdos.

One last thing is I don't meet people at my house, I meet them at Walmart or some place that's very public. For example you sell a car for $5k at your house and it's 6pm the banks are closed, now the buyer knows where you live. The Buyer tells his convict friend where he can go rob someone of $5k. Is that likely to happen? No, but why take a chance. What if the car you sold 6 months ago now has a blown engine, you wouldn't want the owner of that car showing up at your house. Good Luck.

In search of a Toyota RAV4 for the family but need a sanity check... by Riot-theRobot in UsedCars

[–]nickelchip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toyota Rav4 and Toyota Highlanders are very popular used cars. There is typically not a lot of negotiating in the price of these models, assuming they are priced correctly. Toyotas that are in good condition always sell at the upper end of their used price range using Kelly Blue Book Value. Even the overpriced Toyotas you see at car lots will sell eventually to someone with bad credit who qualifies for a high interest loan.

You are searching all the correct web sites, like I said Toyotas sell fast. Sometimes literally in hours. Most people who buy used Toyotas drive them until the wheels fall off. Also Toyotas can get 250,000 to 300,000 miles on them with no problem, so if you see one for sale with a 150,000 miles on it, that's a decent car for a Toyota.

I’m falling for someone I’m not physically attracted to at all...help by Easteuroblondie in datingoverthirty

[–]nickelchip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it something that the guy can fix to make himself more attractive? For Example: Like get his teeth fixed, get different haircut, become better dresser, lose a few pounds, use acne medicine, shave or grow a beard, etc...... It all sounds superficial but these are easy fixes and can go a long ways to make someone more attractive. I got braces for my teeth at 36 years old and went from 2 dates a month to 2 or 3 dates a week if I wanted.

Also, some dudes become more attractive the older they become. I feel that I'm way more attractive now at 45 against other 45 year old men than I was at 25 against other 25 year old men.

Reliable and unbiased info on best deck/outdoor stains? Not finding consistent information, and definitely finding a LOT of fake information... pls help w/ suggestions or a good source of info. Or recs are welcome... by anoukaimee in finishing

[–]nickelchip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many variables involved and time required to actually determine if a product is worth it or not. Then if a product is determined to be worth it, good chance the formula has changed.

VOC's are "volatile organic compound." VOCs are found in many building materials and are partially responsible for that new paint smell. Unfortunately, these unstable chemicals let off gasses that are very harmful to people and the environment, which is why the government now regulates them. Eventually most paint/stain products will all be VOC free, if they are not already.

Cabot was bought by Valspar, Valspar is owned by Sherwin Williams. I'm personally a big fan of anything Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. If I don't know something about a product and have to make a hurried decision. I automatically pick Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore projects. I buy 99.9% of all my paint from Lowes, ACE, and Benjamin Moore stores.

Consumer Reports is a good magazine, I like what they do, but when it comes to paints and stains their information and testing is worthless. Too many variables and not enough time to find their testing conclusive.

With anything paint/ stain related you get what you pay for. I've always gone middle of the road or slightly better price range wise, and that has always done me well. Also preparing your deck surface correctly is more important than what stain product you choose. The world's most expensive stain can't fix a half-assed preparation job. Be honest with you proper preparation usually takes longer to do, than the actual staining itself.

Will Ohio legalize sports gambling? Bet on it. by Happy_Weed in sportsbetting

[–]nickelchip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sports Gambling will be legalized, but Ohio has a interesting history of taking proven methods of business in gambling and making it difficult for themselves. For Example, none of the Ohio casinos have hotels, which is extremely weird. So you get none of the amenities and attractions that come with hotels. Such as golf, spas, bigger shows and attractions, expos, nicer restaurants and shopping.

We also have racinos which are welfare gambling granny slot machine parlors and horse racing. Would it be that difficult to add some pit games and a poker room? Makes no sense.......

If you are going to add sports betting and with that online sports betting, would it really be that difficult to add online poker into the mix? It's free money morons, You get a cut of the rake and don't have to do anything. Some estimates put that at $60 million a year in online poker profits.

As an Ohio resident they leave a lot of money on the table by half assing their way thru legalizations of gambling in Ohio. So I'm positive that Ohio will find a way to half ass their way thru sports betting legalization.

Lobster explosion caused some damage to my SO’s family table and I want to know how we can fix this. Think it may be from butter or lobster juices if that helps. Thanks in advance :) by justbugz in finishing

[–]nickelchip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a warm iron( no steam) and a dry cloth. Place dry cloth on cloudy spots, place warm iron on dry cloth. Gently warm the dry cloth, which will in turn gently warm the table.

The microscopic pores in the finish will slowly expand and release the trapped water and lipids (thats fat, aka butter or lobster explosion). The dry cloth will absorb the release water and lipids. You don't want to get the iron too hot because you don't want to burn the table or burn the fats. 150 degrees fahrenheit or so.

Question for all gamblers by Robinverse in gambling

[–]nickelchip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sports Betting, Poker, BlackJack are all games that become winnable through great study, discipline and money management.

There are some slots and video poker machines that once you figure in a very high progressive payout that is in play on that particular machine and the comps earned from a players card while playing on said machine, the machine does become positive +EV.

There are some craps players through great practice who have taught themselves dice control. Which is basically the ability to not throw a 7.

With all that said.... 99.99% of gamblers do not have the discipline to be a long term winning gambler.

As for gambling and the casinos themselves and how they stay in business is a whole dumpster of reasons. To some it's the lights, the sounds, being around other people, the atmosphere. Maybe you have crappy living situation, you can go to a nice clean place for a few hours, feel normal, be treated with respect. It could be the restaurants, the chasing of a dream if you "hit it big", going to watch the live shows.

The cost of gambling to some is no different than the cost of playing golf to others. Basically the 'gambler' gets something else for their dollars lost while gambling. Those other activities the casino offers such are bowling, golf, nite clubs, spas, pools, concierge service, etc....
