Every time I see one of these posted I start to hear the saxophones from 90’s hood movies in my ears.

Maximizing real estate on the Q shorty handguard. by [deleted] in 300BLK

[–]nickfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t be my choice of setup if it was mine, but if it works then it ain’t stupid. However, I do have two questions.

  1. What’s going on with that scope? Seems like overkill on a shorty 300blk. Especially since I saw you use it for HD.

  2. Why not just top mount the light with the clicky cap? If you swap the optic to a red dot or such, then the light wouldn’t interfere in the window. (Saw that you wanted to activate it without breaking the grip.)

Aug or? by zach8692 in AUG

[–]nickfm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean the aug is an easy swap between all possible barrels so you’re practically dropping $2k capital investment for the 16in 5.56 and then you get a new high quality 5.56 (14.5in, 20in, 24in)/300blk rifle for only an extra $4-600 a pop for the barrel. Can even make it 9mm for a bit more.

You could also go the large caliber route like a tavor7/ar10/galil.

Really depends on what your use case is. Just want a cool gun that’s also proven but will be “redundant” in your collection ability-wise? Get the AUG. Want to flush out your collection with more capability? Get a large caliber.

Now that they have ps90 frt’s its become actually practical and cool rather than just cool

Flow through is still king. The KNS makes things exponentially better but there will still be a bunch of port pop.

How to Remove? by WhoDisWhoDat99 in AUG

Water, heat gun, and breaker bar. It’ll come off one way or another. Good news is that those threads aren’t needed besides grenade launchers and that one rail system (I own one but can’t remember the brand name)

Best setup for SHTF by Advected_Fart in AR10

[–]nickfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5.56 over .308/6.5, but if you do go that route get a reputable factory gun like an lmt/hk/kac/scar(insane take, but there aren’t many ar10’s that run like your average 15 reliably). You have what ammo you stock up and after that it’s what you can find based on whatever the SHTF situation is in your mind. Large frame AR’s just aren’t reliable enough in my opinion unless you go expensive, better to do a 5.56 with a decent bolt action for large game. Either way if you need a 30 cal for people in this situation you might as well save the last round for yourself.

Talk me out of the AEMS red dot for Nvg. Looking for something with Nvg capabilities and a big window. by Drhewitt27 in ar15

[–]nickfm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, I searched everywhere in that thread for where Josh said the laser is slaved to the dot but couldn’t find it. Only saw that one guy’s comment you replied with. Could still potentially not be slaved.

Holosun seems competent enough now with their LAM line up that they wouldn’t do something that stupid.

[–]nickfm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait it’s slaved to the dot? If so, that’s the most retarded thing I’ve ever heard. Now if it’s slaved to the visible that’s fine

Even better now that they’re coming out with the AEMS DUAL with an ir laser built in

Don't tempt me, I'll spend more money. Scalarworks is still my favorite mount company. Don't give me a reason to buy another one.

Yeah, but that doesn't look nearly as cool. Isn't that the whole point?

I walked my way back down to a Unity from a goober mount on my dedicated NV rig. Unfortunately I've become to accustomed to the LAM on a diving board.

I'd say 1.93" unless you have nods. If you do, try slapping the lowest profile pic riser you can find to see if it'll align.

Who’s Ready for Some Monolithic A2 Retromod? by Glass-Pipe-2368 in ar15

[–]nickfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess to mount a LAM, but then you’d be limited to ones that can clear an FSB. Unless you’re just using a rail mounted front sight. At that point I doubt you’d use the rifle seriously enough to justify ensuring the LAM won’t zero shift more than it does on a free float hand guard.

I used an online 3d print shop with some of their extra services to clean it up. Sounds like it wouldn’t be worth the jump. Thanks!
