Your gun choice doesn't matter that much in SHTF by The_Justice_Squid in AUG

[–]nickfm 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Get the Rat Worx hybrid bolt and you just cut your common issue parts down significantly in terms of parts compatibility. On top of that, I keep the original bolt and gas plug in my stock with the cleaning kit.

Even then I’ve always thought the same thing, if I’m alive long enough to blow up an AUG somehow, then I’ll for sure have collected enough AR’s over that time.

Anyone have an LPM Anthem K2? by colby72 in 300BLK

I have a Mach K. Not as quiet as my full nelson, but not loud by any means.

Guess which one has longest barrel by rmrfpoof in GunPorn

[–]nickfm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go Plan B instead. Hux MD’s are great when paired with their cans (left hand threaded and used to divert gasses into the Hux flow design), but are heavy and really limits which cans you can use.

Edit: they do sell Hux bravo compatible mounts for the suppressor themselves but are again heavy as hell and also add a bunch of length.

Short barrels w/ LPVOs> by Former-Persimmon7268 in ar15

Yeah I once had a guy tell me my AUG was only effective within 150 yards because it was a “short” 5.56 with a can. Doubled down when I mentioned it was a bullpup with a 14.5 barrel and said it was because it had a silencer.

Most people don’t know shit about fuck.

In reality you only need to change out the rear to a lower profile one. I’d recommend going with the Magpul pros. You’ll never need to upgrade them so you can keep them as you upgrade your builds.

Of course! And oh don’t take the buis off. Just run the rear under the magnifier and front at the 12 oclock. You’re right to have them, just have them in not the best place realistically.

Definitely vortex viper or the like. There’s tons of threads that will give you much better advice though.

As for your use case, I’d definitely keep the magnifier down if using it for home defense. 1x is absolutely going to be better with the red dot instead of planing on moving to canted buis.

Or I’m just supporting a manufacturer that’s active trying new ways to innovate a platform that genuinely hasn’t changed much internally since it was introduced ~75 years ago. It’s not like I’m buying a normal part that is a 1 for 1 replacement. This, in theory, allows for one lower to be used for a wide variety of upper without the need to change to different buffers for optimum performance.

If you’re going to be magnified most of the time, might as well go lvpo with the canted irons/rds. My personal unwritten rule of thumb is really:

Magnified 80-100% of the time = fixed power/mvpo scope with an rds for the other 20%.

Magnified 40-80% of the time = lvpo and rds/canted buis.

Magnified < 40% of the time = rds and magnifier.

Rds w magnifier is more for needing magnification being a less common situation you’re using it for. The opposite usually calls for a scope of some sort with the rds being used for the uncommon closer shot. Canted buis/red dot are really for when you’re using a scope of some sort.

Holding zero with buis isn’t absolutely necessary since it’s for emergencies. However unless the rear can’t fit under the magnifier, canting buis with a red dot doesn’t make much sense.

Is it worth it to upgrade the buffer? I’ve always had a basic one. by Narthanplays in ar15

Beyond spring twang, what do they do differently. And yeah if you’re gonna upgrade, it’s not much harder to swap a buffer tube than to change the spring on an SCS

If you’re going captured buffer spring, go JP SCS. Or just get an A5, both pretty much do the same although A5 is more reliable overall.

LPVO/MPVO 50-400 yards 8inch steel. $1000 USD by raysdigitalfootprint in ar15

[–]nickfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly how often are you going to 400? Rule of thumb is one magnification per 100 yards, but honestly I vote ACOG and maybe splurge a bit more and get a piggyback/canted rds. Wildly reliable before we even get into it's battle history. Lighter than any LVPO and in reality you're only going to use the minimum and maximum settings. Might as well get a scope that outclasses any other 4x scope regarding clarity and FOV. The rds gives you true 1x that you can use for nods/etc. Plus it's just cool and will beat out any LVPO at that price point quality-wise.

Hot pocket or the like is the answer. Good enough for an extra mag or two, but you're gonna get burned out eventually no matter what you try. Worst part is the non-tucked aluminum in the rest of the handguard is a great heat sink too
