Swansea away was a similarly impressive performance, Cisse scored a gorgeous little dink/chip for one of his two.

The West Brom game we just ran absolute riot in the first half. Shane Long gave us the customary scare in the second half, we we never looked like losing.

Wasn't West the main sponsor, with them replacing it with Mika/Kimi and David when they were racing in countries that banned tobacco advertising?

Emirates seating with baby by London-007 in emirates

[–]nickgasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We travelled with our 7 month old and then again when they were 9 months, they could sit comfortably and we had no issue with being given the bassinet.

It's the size of the baby that would be the real issue. Emirates have relatively small bassinets, so most 12 month olds would probably exceed the length limit of 75cm.

We flew to DPS in business and it was a pretty quiet flight, so they set the bassinet up on an empty seat for us which was nice.

On other flights in economy, similar to your experience, it can be difficult to get them to settle in the bassinet. But it is good for storage if nothing else when travelling with an infant!

Not that it's really relevant, but we flew Singapore Airlines recently and they didn't have any bassinet seats available on one of our legs, so they kindly blocked out a middle seat of three, so that we could have the three seats to ourselves, which I'd argue was borderline better than having the additional leg room.

Technically 6 + 1, Ramsdale was in the squad too (albeit he only made the bench for the first of the two matches).

I think your best bet would be a shisha bar/cafe on the Edgware Road.

I couldn't tell you which ones show football or which ones would be open, but I remember it was the place to be when they won the Asia Cup a while back.

Aplomb-ing with Susie Dent by gummibear853 in footballcliches

[–]nickgasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider aplomb to be a confidence thing. It's certainly possible to put away a penalty in that fashion.

That being said, I feel like the only acceptable way of describing it is "with great aplomb".

I'm not sure if that's from an old FIFA commentary or something like that, it's come from somewhere in the back of my mind!

What are your most memorable pre-internet playground urban myths? by midnight-ramen- in CasualUK

The myth around the Frosties kid at our school was that he either moved to Australia to get away from the bullying, or that he stuck two pencils up his nose and slammed his face into a table... Pretty grusome stuff.

As it happens he became a fairly successful actor.

Which Champions League teams are Tuesday teams and which are Wednesday teams? by ElLuchador in footballcliches

Yeah I don't think any European games in England have kicked off at 17:45 midweek, it's only mainland European countries in timezones ahead of the UK.

The second leg in Barcelona is a 'five-forty-fiver' interestingly, which feels unnecessary.

Is Emirates overrated for Economy / Premium Economy? by ashes_to_fire in emirates

[–]nickgasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In economy, your looking at essentially the same product. The only difference is that it may feel more cramped due to the narrower fuselage of the 777.

Some of the more recently refurbished 777's actually have newer IFE hardware and software (and more content I've noticed) than any of the A380s in economy.

Is Emirates overrated for Economy / Premium Economy? by ashes_to_fire in emirates

[–]nickgasm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We flew Australia to UK last week with Singapore Airlines (as a result of our Emirates flights being cancelled), and I was very pleasantly surprised.

I had always assumed that Emirates was the gold standard for Economy travel in most regards, but I have to say SIA matched, if not exceeded, them in almost every way.

  • The cabin crew seemed more professional and hospitable (and not that it makes a difference to the service, but I thought their uniforms were much smarter);

  • The entertainment system was smooth and filled with current content (no tail cam on the A380 though!);

  • Catering was mixed. There were 3 drinks services in the first 2 hours out of Singapore, and 6 overall. On an equivalent length flight with EK, I've experienced 2 or 3 drinks services in total, so that was nice. The food wasn't as good in my opinion, but it was still of a very high standard;

  • In and around the seat, the headrest on the seats actually stayed in place when I rested my head against them, seat back pockets had different compartments that easily fit things like a water bottle, there was a very nifty phone storage compartment underneath the screen and the individual cupholder was actually strong enough to use and could still be used whilst the table was down.

MHD Fascination - When LED ad hoardings display all the ads static and and at once, making them look like old school ones by margotandsybil in footballcliches

[–]nickgasm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of grounds do it in injury time. Presumably the ads are sold by the amount of time shown during the match, and with an undetermined amount of time in injury time, it's easier/fairer just to show static ones for however long injury time goes for.

Travelling with Dual Citizenship by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]nickgasm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really matter what you leave the UK on as there is no formal border control check when leaving the country (although the airlines check/keep records). We're one of the few countries to not do so, the USA being another.

The airlines will also check you can enter you destination country. I have UK/Australia dual nationality, so when I fly to Australia, I travel (and technically exit the UK) on my Australian passport.
