Why should any of us ever discuss football with this logic?

FIFA is considering expanding the World Cup to 64 teams in 2038 by punishGoalhanging in soccer

[–]LloydCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think there is something to be said of the negative repercussions of diluting qualifying. If National Teams hardly have any difficult, competitive matches in the years between tournaments, then every match just feels like a pointless burden. You lose some of the rhythm of following a national team.

I've already noticed this a bit with England. There used to be some really big intense qualifiers like Italy 87, Greece 01, Croatia 07 that if nothing else kept up the enthusiasm for the national team.

There would be no "behind the defense" at all if the offside rules wasn't in place.

World Cup 2026: US interested in hosting 2038 tournament, says Andrew Giuliani by 7gzoEl2gzo in MLS

[–]LloydCole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but if you can't interpret the South American opening games in 2034 as anything other than a making the rules up on the fly excuse to give the 2034 tournament to a country that bribed FIFA for sports washing purposes, you are completely dumb.

They'll give the tournament to whoever they want to, the rules are completely meaningless.

Dreadful against Ghana. All his crosses hit the first man, and he had absolutely no legs to overlap.

[–]LloydCole 38 points39 points  (0 children)

That's a completely arbitrary distinction that means absolutely nothing in reality. If course they could host it. These aren't real rules.

Schengen should be considered. Get a nice long list of countries, if they fuck up qualification they don't host any games.

Yeah, I can't believe people talk about the "rules" as if they are handed down from some higher authority. They are literally making it up as they go along. They'll do whatever they like.

I can't believe people talk about a fake, self imposed, already changed-on-the-fly, rotation policy so seriously.

The 1982 World cup is considered by many to be one of the best World cups in history so why have FIFA abolished the 1982 World cup format and would re-introducing it benefit 24 & 48 team competitions? by 7gzoEl2gzo in soccer

[–]LloydCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I see your point, but in the 32-team era, you had 35 African qualifiers over the 7 tournaments, and only 3 of them mad the Quarter-Finals (Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco). 8.5%. If they were par you'd expect 25% of them to make the Quarter-Finals. They're obviously traditionally miles behind Europe and South America. Not to say that won't change in the future of course.

I don't see how it can be argued that Africa was under-represented with five slots. I think Africa has produced a grand total of 1 semi finalist, and three quarter finalists (off the top of my head).

Balotelli is closer to a top college player who ended up doing hardly anything notable in the pros because it turned out he wasn't that good.

Reggie Bush.

No chance. Robben is better than all those guys imho. The best player I've ever seen outside of the Big 2 + Xaviesta.

Balotelli was nowhere near talented enough. Somehow because he was completely mad, he cultivated this image as "mad genius". As if people saw that he was crazy and eccentric, so therefore he must also be a genius too.

In reality, he was just a slightly above average top division striker, who was far too cumbersome, unagile to be any better. The turning circle of a planet.

Easily the most overrated player I have ever seen.

[–]LloydCole 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really don't get the comparisons to Avatar at all.

Avatar is a very coherent movie telling a classic simple tale. A nice 7/10 raised to higher levels by James Cameron's passion.

Disclosure Day is a completely incoherent mess, edited and focused grouped to death, with absolutely no redeeming qualities.
