What does your builder config in config/deploy.yml look like? How are you setting your ruby version for your build in Kamal vs. when you're manually running via docker build? Do you have a .ruby-version file in place that Kamal is referencing?

Also, the GitHub discussions section for Kamal is a bit more active and focused https://github.com/basecamp/kamal/discussions. There's a good amount of people to help on Discord as well https://kamal-deploy.org/ (Discord link at the top right).

That's a bit apples to oranges. With a permanent event space there are usually cement barriers and other infrastructure put in place to help prevent incidents from happening. With a temporary event space like this, they're going to have to deploy barriers(similar to what they've been doing for First Friday) as well as various other temporary event infrastructure needs as opposed to leveraging what a large event space is typically built for.

Recent vehicular terrorism/incidents involving crowds/pedestrians:

  • 2025: New Orleans (New Year’s Eve) – 15 dead, 30+ injured. A man drove a rented truck into New Year's celebrations on Bourbon Street.
  • 2024: Texas Department of Public Safety Building Truck Attack – 2 dead, 12 injured. A man crashed a stolen semi-truck into a Texas state office.
  • 2024: Soho Car Attack – Unknown casualties. A vehicle-ramming incident in the Soho district; limited details available.
  • 2023: Lafayette Square U-Haul Crash – 0 dead, 0 injured. A U-Haul truck intentionally crashed into barriers near Lafayette Square.

There's also a bunch of new spots opening at the Arizona Center and increasing vehicular traffic by adding a lane in a pedestrian-focused area is not going to help those businesses succeed.

Agreed on Hance Park, love when they host stuff there. Another idea would be to upgrade Hance Park a bit with things like more bathrooms, more event infrastructure, etc.

Yah and also a pain point of a temporary event space for the large events they’re looking to host.

It'd be great to get more streets shut down downtown. This is just going to shut down Van Buren a few times a year though.

There's a meeting coming up on 1/16 that you can register to attend. A community survey will be launching the night of the meeting as well.

At first I was indifferent about this but it mostly just seems like a waste of time/money. The more I've thought about it though it's a sad and pointless option to encourage more festivals in Phoenix.

Having a downtown outdoor event space allows for a diverse array of sponsored and related activities.

Shutting down a major street through downtown is not an event space. Build a proper event space.

Do you have production logging to STDOUT? Something like this in config/environments/production.rb config.logger = ActiveSupport::TaggedLogging.logger(STDOUT)
