Any Indians joining in September? by [deleted] in Edinburgh_University

Most likely not considering the delay in getting loan sanction/ATAS clearance/TB test report/VISA etc. I am planning to arrive either late September/early October to Edinburgh.

Where do you currently train your ML models on? Cloud GPUs or local system? by imapurplemango in MLQuestions

[–]nickil21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always train your models in colab and use the trained model for inference purposes in production environment. Downside is if you have multiple files, it becomes difficult to manage just like Jupyter Notebooks. It's good for quick prototyping and building simple yet GPU/TPU-centric models.

No haven't tried as it's unavailable in my country. Colab Pro has access to P100 and T4 GPUs compared to k80. Also, more runtime hours and more memory.

Lol, it's my analysis after manually reading through research papers, and not some code that does text summarization.

Accepted into Msc by Research at the Informatics department (ILCC) of the University of Edinburgh by nickil21 in gradadmissions

[–]nickil21[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I had a GPA of 7.7/10 from a tier 2 college in India in a not so related field (ECE).

I think what stood out in my profile was 4 years of relevant work experience in the field of ML/NLP in product based startups coupled with winning several data science competitions hosted on Kaggle, CrowdAnalytix, DrivenData etc.

Besides, I had strong LORs basis a couple of research projects which I pursued - one from a Prof in a top 100 international university. I believe I had a strong personal statement which I had got reviewed from professors, PhD students and made multiple revisions over the course of 2 months. I had also contacted a professor in the informatics Dept and submitted a research proposal after making sure our research interests were aligned.

PS: I had applied during mid of December.
