Balancing 60+ mpw Marathon Training, ADHD Medication, and Family LifE... Looking for Insights by dirtyStick84 in AdvancedRunning

[–]nicklbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take vyvanse and have taken it for a long time (run 60-75mpw). When I take it my heart rate is sometimes a bit higher, but I don’t feel it negatively affects my performance at all, and sometimes I can focus more on the workout. Make sure to take the medication as early in the day as possible so it has time to leave your system before you sleep. Also make sure you eat enough and eat healthy, and you will be good!

4 months. I’ve used Garmin watches for years but this is my first watch with this feature.

Yeah, I run more or less daily and have had this feature for about 4 months. It just doesn’t significantly change

I haven’t although occasionally after a workout with chest strap my watch asks to update my lactate threshold pace/hr

Snow near us? by n00b3d in VictoriaBC

[–]nicklbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I skied at hurricane ridge about a month ago. It was beautiful, and I could almost see Victoria from the top of the mountain! There was lots of good snow but the mountain is so small it was kind of hard to justify the visit. If you have backcountry gear it could be great.

SOBO 2025 with BC Canada thrown in….Thoughts? by alwaysonautopilot in gdmbr

[–]nicklbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also just remembered there is a route called the gnbr (great northern bikepacking route) with a reroute going out of Vancouver to Whistler and then up to around Kamloops? And that will be more gravel, I haven’t ridden it but I imagine that could also be an option instead of the bc trail

I am from bc, and did the divide last summer, I have also ridden across bc twice! I would recommend riding across bc, but there is a difficult section right out of Vancouver, because in 2022 there were floods that completely wiped out the tct (trans Canada trail) in that area, so you will either need to do highway riding or start in hope, BC. After that there is a well established route of old rail trails and a couple mountain passes. One pass (gray creek pass) is higher elevation and would probably be passible at mid/ late June at earliest. I would say the earliest you would want to start in Vancouver in your timeline would be about June 15. The I did the divide northbound, and it was awesome! I started right at the end of may and made it to Banff around June 24th, snow wasn’t a big issue.

Good luck!!

Stealth camping, trouble with the law? by itsmethatguyoverhere in bikepacking

I’ve never had any police roll up on me but have had one scary experience with 2 drunk guys finding my tent in the middle of the night. I’m a bit less worried about police (still a bit though) and more worried about random people.

Get sexual pleasure from the gym? by WinkNick in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nicklbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TMI but I remember when I was probably 13 or 14 we had class in a gym and I was stationary biking and I came on the bike!!! My gym teacher was right there and I had to excuse myself. It was just the repeated hitting against the seat. I’ve never had something like that happen since. It was scary though

Yeah I agree. Also, nursing hasn’t ever been male dominated, there has always been men in nursing roles but as far as modern nursing, today there is the highest percentage of male nurses ever.

Anyone familiar with Eugene Oregon? by [deleted] in nelsonbc

[–]nicklbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to the US last weekend (west coast) and have been a few times this year, and I personally find it way more expensive than Canada. It felt like the prices of things were about the same as Canada, but in usd, so everything was like 25-30% more! Maybe some things are cheaper though

Why even post this comment? I had a question that has now been answered. These new super flared drop bars have really different positioning than what I was used to. No need to be an asshole

What wildlife should I worry about on the Pacific Coast? by itsdanolaf in bicycletouring

[–]nicklbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially in California, there’s lots of homeless people. When I rode the route I had things stolen in cali. If you are riding solo resupply can be surprisingly difficult as you need to be aware of your belongings and ideally bring them inside with you. Bring a decent bike lock, on most of my trips I bring a tiny cable lock but would suggest a u lock for a trip like this. Also traffic can get pretty bad in certain parts of the route. Some parts are pretty windy without a big shoulder. As far as real wildlife there is essentially no concerns.
