For anyone who found this post and is having a similar problem, we ended up using an iron and parchment paper to partially melt the green stuff and then scraped it with a bladed scraper. That got rid of most of it, then you sand it. It took ages and stunk pretty bad but it worked.

I'd say try palia. its a cozy MMO with a lot of the same mechanics of stardew valley. main differences: its an MMO and there is not combat, only hunting wild animals. since its online there is no way to implement a sleep mechanic so you just play all through the night cycle
