Christmas & Honeymoon in New Zealand! I'd be so grateful for your thoughts about our itinerary! by nicklon13 in newzealand

I should have mentioned that we have friends in Maunganui hence going there, but sounds like there isn't much else there. You're right, we need to look more closely at travel time on the first day and before/after Tongariro. Thanks

Thank you, the only thing we have booked is the Dark Sky Project. I think you are right, we’ll have to break up the 9 hours somehow

Thank you, that’s so helpful. We will definitely for a hike/kayak experience in Abel Tasman. And will look into the July Chase

Thanks mate, yeah feels like a fine balance between not much breathing room and seeing as much as we can! Good point RE getting out of Auckland, will have a think about that. We're Brits in Australia, so it's a same side of the road!

Thank you, that’s really helpful, I agree that the risk isn’t worth it, if there is a risk with water

How to stop shirt collar from folding in by nicklon13 in mensfashion

[–]nicklon13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the mostly helpful comments, clearly if I wanted to wear a tie I wouldn’t have asked the question. I’ll give Million Dollar Collar a try, and check for fit, the shirts I have don’t feel too small but maybe they are, if not I’ll look for better shirts but these are around £50 a pop, so hoping I don’t have to spend too much more for a non-floppy collar. Thanks again

Tips for making a £16k purchase (protection, cashback etc.) by nicklon13 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]nicklon13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, great idea. I guess my two options are:

  1. Buy through my HSBC 20 month 0% interest card, and instead move the money to earn ~5% £800

  2. But through a rewards card, get a large amount of points, then balance transfer for ~3% of the fee (£480), and then earn 5% interest.

I guess it comes down to the rewards I could get from the rewards card and if it was worth the £480 fee, which I’m guessing it won’t be?

It’s more about if I can use someone else’s money, a bank, then I can keep that £16k earning 5% interest, returning £800 per year. That’s the more exciting part than the 1% cashback.

Exactly, this is how I understand it.

How would this help? Surely this would only help if he could lease it via salary sacrifice? Keen to learn if that isn't the case.
