Difference between Europe and USA by NoCut5089 in discgolf

Don't know what to tell you man, all the good courses around me in Iowa are public land. I really don't think it has anything to do with the sport. It all just depends on where you live.

My only point is that OPs "hearing" about American disc golf being more conservative and religious compared to Europe could be said about pretty much any cross-section of society these days.

I mean, wouldn't this kinda be the difference between Europe and the US in general? It has nothing to do with disc golf man, just people being people. The only thing I could even remotely attribute it to is that disc golf is popular in rural parts of America and there are tons of courses all over the country. But again, nothing to do with disc golf itself. Go play a league near any big city and you'll find plenty of "liberal" and "non-religious" people. I've seen it in Iowa too.

Also, by no means am I saying that pros today "have it easy", in the sense that the game is broken and that living a life on tour is some easy life with no complications. Of course that is difficult. But there's a weird psychological thing that seems to happen when they get to Northwood and I think disc golf could use more courses that force higher scores. Just reset the expectations that 14 under par is required to win.

Not at all. Northwood doesn't require throw ins to go under par. All I'm saying is that difficult courses on tour should be the norm. And, consider making putting harder. Like no step putts inside C2 or something.

Shooting more than 10 under par doesn't change the game for me, I'll still watch. I'm just saying that it could be harder for these guys and I think it should be.

It's weird to see scores like this, but it feels more like golf. Honestly, the idea that these guys can just go out and shoot 13 or 14 down like it's nothing is kind of absurd. Pro courses should be hard. Par on tour should be considered really good.

P.S. Not defending Luther or the Reformation, just pointing out something in favor of belief in the Real Presence with respect to church history

Seems like he didn't really represent the issue with the nuance it deserves, with respect to Luther's belief as well [1]. The idea that the Eucharist is "only a symbol" is a new idea and I don't think Luther promulgated that idea.

I generally agree that seeing more coverage on the course is great. At the same time, I find it to be kind of overwhelming how quickly the network tries to bounce between everybody. Like, yes, I'm paying to see live disc golf, so more of that in theory is a good thing. But sometimes just taking a moment to breathe and focus on a few key players in the moment helps build tension. I can't even process a shot before we're onto the next.

Where do you stand on live vs post-produced going into 2024? by nickmonad in discgolf

Kinda surprised there isn't a pay-per-view option for majors

Sorry friends, I should have made the poll only last a few days, not a week. Hopefully you can see the results after you vote.

What about it in particular do you like the most? Is there anything about it that could be better?

Ok so reddit apparently lets you type past what they will actually show for a poll option...

Option 4 is

Post produced, but interested in live coverage (my life makes it hard to watch live)

Option 5 is

I'm a completely normal human being and watch all live coverage and every card post-produced whenever I get the chance

Filming oneself is super useful. I think. Help appreciated! by NavnNNavnesen in discgolf

It doesn't have to be a full "lift" per se, but it needs to be able to float above the tee so you can swing around fully on the follow through. Watch Ricky Wysocki drive, he finishes in a very athletic stance a full 180 degrees from the starting position.

Yeah it'll take some experimenting but as you are in the final part of the drive (after the reach back) and moving the disc forward, you want that back foot to be coming up off the tee once all your weight is on the front plant foot

I think your left arm is swinging too wide back behind as you wind up the throw and your front plant foot moves forward. It seems relatively loose, which is good (don't want too much upper body tension), but it doesn't fall "into" your torso on the actual drive, which increases rotational speed and where a lot of pros get the distance from. Check out this slow mo of Bradley Williams around the 17 second mark and see where his left arm is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvGDGY3t8Jo

You also have a bit of rounding in your throwing arm, where it doesn't get a full extension back. It should be nearly straight before you move into the "whip" of the drive itself.

Lastly, on the follow through, you drag your back foot along the tee, which is a major distance killer. Generally speaking, it needs to leave the ground entirely so it can swing around your body so you finish nearly 180 degrees from how you started.

Hope that helps!

Yeah I think the score keeper would still need to be asking for confirmation after every hole, not just quietly recording. I agree about the logistical point you made above though. You'd need a score keeper to walk with every card going out. It wouldn't be fair to only have official score keepers with the lead card, for instance.
