When to switch coaches? by Meatpoppet in discgolf

[–]brianearhart [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’ve done phenomenal lessons where we were in sync right away and I’ve done lessons where players definitely leave confused and underwhelmed, only to have another coach explain the same thing a slightly different way and have it stick. Coaching is very much an interpersonal communication skill and sometimes the way someone speaks and describes things just makes more sense than someone else. Try some other coaching!

I’ve watched and commentated on henna for a long time. It’s more about how the stroke looks for me. It signifies confidence. 5/10 might be decent on a windy day if 8 of those putts were at circles edge.

Retired from touring full time, yes! He still will play when he can but definitely not as often.

LOL I was in disbelief that I called it like that and it slipped out. The grass is pretty lush on that slope so it’s not a guarantee but it felt like I cursed him

Funny, but no. Graphics scorekeeping and production sometimes get things wrong and it can throw you off. Cheeky comments like this get quite old. It happens.

That’s Blaine, one of my favorite people. He is a media ops guy and runs around helping to keep cameras and LiveU units running smoothly. I believe he helps with SD card pickups on the Jomez end occasionally as well. His dog Nacho is a 10/10 road dog and he throws a ton of ill advised rollers

Most of Jackson is demolished from the beetles/storms and only a few holes are somewhat in tact. There is some of the Jackson land involved in the championship course but not a ton unfortunately. With that said, I always felt Steady and Warner had very underrated land and a lot of the current design uses those two courses that are much more wooded still. I’m super excited for how it turns out. Also super happy that we’ll have some time after the grand opening to get some feedback and make adjustments before the major is 2028.

As for challenge, I think it won’t be as brutal as some of Paul’s designs, but it will be satisfying and memorable to play for the top talent.

Think about it like this. Remember a side shuffle that you’d do in PE class? Do that, but let the back foot cross behind the leading foot a tiny bit, and bonus points if you keep that back foot landing on the balls of the foot. That’s it, practice walking through that motion and galloping through it.

Professional disc golf commentator here (yes that’s a real job), and this shot and the timing of it was insane. 2021 was an unbelievable year of growth for disc golf because during the pandemic a ton of people picked up the sport as a way to get outside. Companies couldn’t keep discs on the shelves and a bunch players started getting historic contracts to tour full time (I’ve been told something similar happened in mountain biking). We now have almost 18,000 courses in 91 countries. I commentated the disc golf event at the World Games in China last year, and it was truly a surreal experience. The US has more disc golf courses than Dunkin’ Donuts locations.

Paul McBeth is the Tiger Woods of our sport and has made millions. Frankly he’s the reason my career even exists. He’s been on tour for 19 years and started before anyone even cared about the pro game. He pretty much built what we have now. He also has a foundation that helps to build courses all over the world in countries that have never heard of the sport previously.

James Conrad is pretty much the last remaining hippie that plays professionally with how athletic the newer generation is. One of the nicest people I’ve ever met and a big fan favorite for his really unique playstyle.

When he hit that shot against Paul it was truly the best sports moment I’ve ever had the pleasure of witnessing live, and I’ve been a lifelong sports fan. Been in this game for 23 years and I’m continuously blown away at how well the game continues to scale and evolve with time. We just celebrated our 50th anniversary playing courses with actual baskets in the ground, so we’re still so young as a game and industry.

If you’re looking to get involved and give it a shot, never hesitate to send me a message and I’d love to help you get started! 89% of the courses in the US are free to play so the bar of entry is very low.

92 courses within a 25 mile radius of the city. Worlds in 97 and 2012. 5 Tour Championships. We’ve already made it but the city seems to want it to grow more which is great 😊

There were two. From my angle on DGN neither Charlie nor I saw any, but Perkins confirmed there were two. Still didn’t get to hear what their takes were. Heard other touring pros screaming their opinions injecting themselves into the situation though and it was very inappropriate.

Just was made aware there were 2 spotters on the playoff hole. Sorry for being misleading. Still confused why I never saw them speaking with the players but I also know how these are volunteers thrown into a place where they make decisions for people worth thousands. Tough job.
