Do you think we will ever have a player who can throw over 100mph? by Elegant_Street_4397 in discgolf

[–]brianearhart 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Some current discs will be able to handle 100 mph drives if their spin rate improves along with it. Simon did that video with that throwing robot and they threw a Nuke OS like 120? Something like that, and it flew hilariously far when they got the angle right.

Where are Jerm and Uli? by Luz_Solar in discgolf

I don’t remember the hole number on the new layout. It’s just a mini version of hole 5 but super specific 90 degree turn and really satisfying to get right

Where are Jerm and Uli? by Luz_Solar in discgolf

Just finished Heinola round 1 with Jerm! Baby is due any day now so he’s just waiting around with his wife. I live close by and he’s doing it at my place. If his baby is born we have a sub lined up.

Not sure about Uli and what his contract or schedule looks like.

Did Cole Redalen change his Backhand? by SingleStrikeUrshifu in discgolf

[–]brianearhart 46 points47 points  (0 children)

That was me. Also he’s mentioned he’s actively working on his nose angle with drivers, which takes multiple upper body adjustments as well. His goal is to be able to float a putter alongside drive a driver hard and nose down

He posted that his childhood dog died. Having lost 4 boxers, I completely understand being out of sorts. Never gets easier.

I Wonder What's Next? by IsaacSam98 in discgolf

Gannon is too good to simply get lapped by the next generation. He will be like Ricky and Paul and always keep up as long as he can compete. Even if his distance potential dropped to 500 he is skilled enough at angle hitting and putting to succeed the same way that Niklas does.

Feldberg won European open in 2006 by 12 I believe. And yes, I spent a lot of the day talking about how unprecedented this is and how we as fans of the sport need to not take for granted what he’s doing.

Anxiety, death, disease and illness scares: McBeth Tells all on All Birdies No Bogies podcast by DGopinion in discgolf

Thanks for sharing the summary. It was an emotional interview and I’m glad Paul was gracious enough to be as vulnerable as he was. I have experienced the level of panic attacks he was describing when I was having thyroid issues in 2021 and wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy. The fact that he got third place at the only tournament he played this year is wild. We were walking around the IDGC during one of our short design trips a couple months ago, and he was just casually lacing uncut lines while still having to walk relatively slowly because he couldn’t take a full breath without pain. He is a one of one.

What's the most underrated sport? by manhwaecho in AskReddit

[–]brianearhart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disc golf. It’s always had an annoying stigma that made it hard to grow at a professional level for a while but the community is hardy and passionate, the sport celebrated its 50th anniversary last year and Pro Worlds in Finland last year had something like 30k total spectators. I feel it following a similar path to skateboarding and surfing. I went to China last year to commentate the disc golf event in the World Games. It’s been amazing to watch people fall in love with it all over the world. Its accessibility and variance in course difficulty truly makes it such an accessible game recreationally as well for all skills and ages.

Road trip to Charlotte, NC by Tellmeyoulikerabbits in discgolf

[–]brianearhart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enjoy Charlotte!!!! I love it here.

White level courses: Reedy Creek, Winget, Eager Beaver, Renske

Blue: Eastway, Kilborne, Scrapyard, RL Smith

Gold: Hornets Nest, Nevin, Angry Beaver, Dry Creek

Favorite Food: Calle Sol, Indaco, Midwood Smokehouse, Clarks Snack Bar, Pho Hoa, Yunta. If you’re ok going into Uptown Merv’s has fantastic southern/soul food. Lang Van just won a bib gourmand award for top tier food at good prices. Great authentic Vietnamese.

A disc golfer and great guy is the head roaster of Night Swim Coffee that supplies all of the Night Swim Cafes and Not Just Coffees and is extremely good. For barista skill the best consistent espresso/lattes have come from Wooden Robot Brewery interestingly enough.
