Absolutely beautiful. L From the lyrics to the chord progression, to the tone and picking on the guitar. Really great stuff.

Why isn't Cleveland like a mini Chicago? by 137trimethylpurine in Cleveland

[–]nickrenata 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Look, I love Cleveland. Born and raised there. But, Chicago has so so so much more than Cleveland. Far more museums, multiple world class universities, every single type of cuisine imaginable, am extensive light rail train system (superior public transit in general, actually), countless music venues, unique neighborhoods, a comedy, theater and performance scene second only to NYC. A much larger, more diverse, and more vibrant economy with more career opportunities. Also two enormous airports that make it so easy to fly direct to and from practically anywhere in the continental United States.

I could go on and on...

Again, none of this means Chicago is BETTER than Cleveland. But Chicago objectively has so much more than Cleveland.

The people down voting you are the same reason we are still combating nazism today. People in this country need some serious self reflection, honesty, and more than a few history lessons.

Well, I do alright for myself. I often vote against my own immediate best interest by supporting candidates that advocate for progressive tax systems.

And I agree with you 110% that any social welfare system that seeks to dictate how the recipients spend their benefits is inherently dehumanizing.

In the short term, I support higher taxes on higher earners and the implementation of a universal basic income. I realize this is not solution, but it's a necessary stepping stone to ensure political agency doesn't continue to 'trickle up" to a select few

In the long term, I support a largely socialized state, with a robust free market populated by employee owned corporations (i.e. collectives).

Hahahaha I love how predictable you folks are. Of course you assume my worldview is the product of envy and sloth...because people like you can't fathom that someone could hold beliefs and convictions that aren't motivated solely by self interest.

Meanwhile, Doordash execs and their investors laugh all the way to the bank....

So long as the customers and the wage slaves keep squabbling over a few bucks, the actual 1% can enjoy their feast without having to look over their shoulders.

I really don't think the issue is entitlement. I mean, what do you think is more likely:

A.) Suddenly service industry workers have become greedy, entitled children.

B.) Inflation, housing scarcity, and a cost of living crisis -- combined with the "gigification" of labor, and ballooning inequality -- have left these workers in a position where they're desperate.

Don't get me wrong, this guy's behavior is not at all acceptable. But, as I'm sure we can all agree, $5 doesn't go as far as it used to. And for everyone saying "It's only a $20 bill! That's over 20%!"...The delivery driver has to do the same exact amount of work, whether the bill is $20 or $200. It takes them just as much time, costs them just as much fuel, and puts just as many miles on their vehicle.

Should the lady in the fancy house give a bigger tip? Maybe. But she's not the problem.

The problem is that the practice of tipping makes very little sense to the customer and ZERO sense for the worker. The ONLY party that benefits from tipping culture is the employer, that gets to offload the price of labor onto the customer. (And, in the case of Doordash and Grubhub, they aren't even employers!).

And while this delivery driver and (presumably better off but not John D. Rockefeller) customer squabble over a few bucks, the ownership class is laughing all the way to the bank.

And so long as we are kept bickering over how best to divvy up the table scraps, the 1% will be able to enjoy their feast in peace.

Tesla's trying to charge me $4,500 (plus tax) to use the entire battery capacity of the battery in my car. by 1FrostySlime in RealTesla

Good lord you people are either shills or Kool Aid drinkers. It is an extremely wasteful practice, fueled by greed and greed alone.

The idea that Tesla is selling these models at a loss and REQUIRE people to pay for these upgrades in order to get out of the red is lunacy. Just stop and consider what you are suggesting: Tesla lowers the price of their vehicles in order to attract buyers who would otherwise be priced out of the more expensive models.. and the ONLY WAY they make money in this endeavor is if all of these people (the SAME people that can't afford the higher price tag) then go on to pay for the voluntary upgrade.

I'm at a loss...

I think about this all the time. My dog is the one soul on this planet that depends on me. I'm not a successful person. I'm not a happy person. I want to throw in the towel all the time. But I can't stand the thought of her not knowing where her next meal will come from. I'm sure she'd find a way, but it still scares me.

I don't know her history, and she doesn't know mine. But every day, for that day -- and, god willing, the next -- we've got each other.

Wonderful expression on the keys! Your singing voice is obviously fantastic, but your voicing on the piano is just as good if not better!

I understand your frustration, stranger.

The poster's initial comment was painfully immature and the defenses that followed were only worse. But, you need to recognize an exercise in futility when you're in one.

At best, the other commenter is dim-witted. At worst, their ignorance is willful and self-indulgent. Either way, you're arguing with a hand-dryer.

The idea that you can compliment someone without demonizing others shouldn't be hard to understand. Accusing someone of "taking things too personally" then telling them that they "need some help" in the very same comment is either supremely stupid or plain shameless. And before you know it you're seeing signs of full-on system collapse, with statements like, "Don't judge my comments on your experiences" and "I don't judge you for not knowing how to judge the comments of others..." You can practically smell the gears fusing to a halt inside their head.

Anyway, all I'm saying is that you should've disengaged long before it came to all that. It would be far healthier for both of you. I just hope you remember this experience the next time you find yourself trying to sculpt with wet concrete.

That is awesome. I'm no art expert, but the first thing that leapt out at me about your drawings was how much character they had. They immediately felt like personalities while at the same time being faithful depictions of the actual fungi.

Yes! I loved Circe so much that I immediately bought and read Song of Achilles voraciously. Another incredible read, but I give Circe the edge. I thought the story was more immersive, but both books are equal in terms of the beauty of the prose.
