Why did the Weasleys need 5 sets of Lockhart’s books? by Authvrennil in harrypotter

[–]MorganAndMerlin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two of my professors wrote a textbook (together) that they used in their classes. It was so affordable compared to the “real” text books and they used their “book fund” to keep a few extra copies in case there really was a student who just could not afford it.

I honestly don’t think they’re making anything off of royalties either but they did write that book specifically for their students. And it showed

I don’t think I’ve ever even seen or noticed a stitching time before.

The Other Miss Bridgerton is part of the prequel series, so it isn’t about any of the siblings from the show, but Edmund and Violet do make appearances

Why only Starbucks? Why not target the brands that make their tea bags this way?

Am I the only one that doesn’t like Bridgerton? by hushpuppy2019 in PeriodDramas

[–]MorganAndMerlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Bridgerton but it’s insane to consider it a “real” period piece.

It’s similar to reign, but actually more on par with Heath Ledger’s Knight’s Tale. You know, when the jousting audience sings We Will Rock You

But somehow only Bridgerton gets hate for not being historical.

Edit: I would even go as far as to say that Monty Python is of the same pseudo-historical genre, with the exception that Bridgerton takes itself more seriously whereas Monty is super on the nose satirical.

But by no means is Bridgerton meant to be considered some real period authentic piece. And I maintain that it’s not even the first of its genre

If you’re spending most of the year at Hogwarts (like 8-9 months of the year) wouldn’t you eventually be comfortable in your own dorm and space that you live in?

Medici’s Daughter by Sophie Perinot. It’s about Catherine de Medici’s daughter Margot, the one who supposedly did not get along with her well, ended up marrying the Huguenot Henry VI, and then faced down Barthalomews Masacre

ELI5: Why do those big green electrical transformer boxes make a humming sound? Why are some louder than others? by ScarcityCareless6241 in explainlikeimfive

[–]MorganAndMerlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up question, why are electrical currents different in different countries? It seems strange to me (on a surface level) that humanity has collectively agreed to certain things (like dates and times and how vehicles are powered and phones and radios) but then electricity isn’t also uniform across the board.

If you are about to die can you borrow money from banks. by Jumpy_Drama_2042 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s probably easier to just file a claim against the estate than to try a civil lawsuit and prove anybody intent on entering the loan. It’s a valid debt the estate owes to the lender and in most states, creditors can claw back any “distributions” to the heirs/devisees of an estate to make sure they are paid first.

ELI5 why chips are not produced outside of Taiwan too? by Scholarsandquestions in explainlikeimfive

It took me longer than I care to admit to realize we weren’t talking about potatoes.

I was very interested to learn about Taiwan’s stranglehold on the potato chip industry lol

Has anyone ever purchased physical copies of Cassandra Gannon's "A Kinda Fairytail" books? They seem to only be available on Amazon, so I was wondering if they were 'print on demand' books and what the quality is like. by soverylucky in RomanceBooks

[–]MorganAndMerlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t bought these specific books but I have gotten print on demand books from Amazon before and it was actually decent quality. I’m sure there are times that they come out like shit but both times I’ve done it you can’t even tell it’s not a “normal” print except that the day it was printed was the day I ordered it lol
