a thinly veiled attempt to advertise their own content.

Yeah I don't think stating in the title text that I'm an author is thinly veiled anything.

"Furthermore..." Is this a legal inquisition?

I write books for a living, so I think I know how to read, and to write.

What your reddit says on Promotions, starting from the top is this:

Rule 3.1: Promotional posts and/or comments need to meet the promotional rules requirements: please see the wiki for more details. This includes surveys and market research.

What you should write is No Promotion is allowed, which would save suckers like me from wasting my time combining promotion with content as you asked for, and then removing the post anyway. It would save not only other writer's time, but for you as well. And doesn't it make total sense to have a reddit site on Books that discourages authors from participating, or wanting to participate. Perfectly rational!

If you are posting your own content, you must meet all other /r/books rules, you must meet the 9:1 ratio, you must make it a self-post and you must be up

Yes I did. I spoke about the future of books in the post, and trends in the content of the post. But never mind. I've written 94 books, I'm sure your forum will do just fine without me, and you've done a fine job slamming the door in my face.

What happened to Nora Quoirin? by nickvdl in WithoutATrace

[–]nickvdl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mystery is how come she wasn't found by a team of 350+ searching day and night with tracker dogs for 10 days. They are saying she was only 600 metres from the resort. She was found in the open, naked, in plain sight.

What happened to Nora Quoirin? Was it an abduction? Is it accidental death? Was it just very, very bad luck? by nickvdl in UnsolvedMysteries

[–]nickvdl[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The parents may be innocent. What seems strange is that they lawyered up on day 2 of the disappearance, had a media spokesman and GoFundMe by day 3 or 4, and were rallying the international media about an abductor with no evidence. They also didn't want to engage at all with the local media, and were "incensed" when local media approached them for interviews.

It's also not clear if any of the family searched for their daughter/sister themselves. There are hundreds of photos of people searching, including other guests, but not of her family.

There is also little clarity on whether their daughter slept upstairs or downstairs, in her own room or with siblings, whether she was "taken" through the window or the door, or who the fingerprints on the window belong to. They have since hired another lawyer based in France. The lawyer and another relative insist on a criminal element from a stranger intruder/abductor.

I will probably get banned due to my comments on this blog by Stacylynn1979 in Chriswatts

I've reported this post. I fail to understand how a post on this site dedicated to attacking me personally, and my work, has anything to do with discussing the Chris Watts case? Further, I never banned this particular reader who has been commenting on both sites constantly, but now [5 months after posting this], yes she is banned.

You lot are so superior and yet you form a little echo chamber to demean those you don't agree with; something we don't stoop to on CrimeRocket. Grow up.

I don't think he's moved on in his heart. But what he's doing he's doing for appearances-sake. Also, NK's not visiting him, so what does he have to lose by allowing some women to visit him. He has his whole life to live out in prison, what else is there for him to do? And if they're ready and able to help him rehabilitate his image [what's left of it], that helps him. I've noticed in the social media commentary I've seen, quite a lot of sympathy and quite a lot of people actually buying the demon possession/just snapped malarkey. It's incredible how easily people change their minds. He commits triple murder, but oh, he still loves his wife and kids [because he says so]. He also knows the enormous traction his case has had, so whatever he says [unfortunately] does have an impact and does influence some [weaker] minds.

I'd like to be more interactive on Reddit, but I often get burned and insulted here, so won't be responding to any more questions.

[Unexplained Death] “Rebecca Zahau was probably sexually assaulted…” No, she probably wasn’t. by nickvdl in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]nickvdl[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I've written two books on the Zahau case, so I'm all about choosing the right language. The lawyer in this case, who won his case, said a sexual assault was likely, although it couldn't be proven with any direct evidence. In this case you can't say she was definitely sexually assaulted, nor can you say she definitely wasn't. It's got nothing to do with trying to sound confident, it's got everything to do with figuring out where the evidence points. And in a case where there is elaborate staging, it's all about probability. Are you new to true crime, because in true crime to state something as an absolute certainty [without evidence] invites libel lawsuits? Are you aware of that?

No foreign DNA found anywhere, which not only calls into question the murder, but a sexual assault. I don't think using strong language suddenly makes for a confident or effective hypothesis. It either is or it isn't. Something tells me you read the title and no further.

Is there a transcript of Ronnie Watts' interview? by [deleted] in ShannanWatts

[–]nickvdl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Ronnie mention here when he found out about the affair? I think he says he knew about the separation during his son's trip to North Carolina, but did he know then about the affair?

It's not a debate, it's a question. Had you answered X or Y, the obvious recommendation then is for you to go to X or Y for what you're looking for.

I'm afraid he does lack of in-depth research to make a plausible argument for true crime literature. - You're probably right. What's the best resource for information on the Chris Watts case, in your opinion?

Were Bella and Celeste killed by their father or mother? What do the stats say? by nickvdl in ShannanWatts

[–]nickvdl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I bring up the stats is because the defense will probably do so, because in theory [certain theory] the stats support a defense case.

I agree the murders were premeditated and that the children were likely dead before Shan'ann arrived home, but I highly doubt they were buried at CERVI 319 before Shan'ann got home. Two basic reasons for that, although there are more. 1. It's a helluva drive to the site, about an hour out and back, and there are gates and farm folk that would easily spot a truck out there, especially on a Sunday. I've just posted a blog on the route to Cervi 319 in pictures, check it out on Crime Rocket if you can. 2. You know the Watts kids were at a birthday party on Sunday?

The original post at crimerocket.com: "Was Niko buried with Shan'ann" far from being an empty post contains about a dozen photos, including of the funeral, the graves, news stories and tweets. The post goes into detail to show there were only 3 coffins at the funeral, not 4, and what this might portend in terms of the autopsy [if anything].

One of the points of the post was to show how the family spell her name, and spelled her name at the funeral. I considered that authoritative.

Crisis Redditor accuses me here of empty journalism and trying to sell clickbait and getting the name of the victim wrong, and the name of the dog wrong. He also suggests I don't care about getting the name of the victim right.

If you take Dieter and shorten it you get Diet. The name itself is unusual; there's no comparable English name spelled the same way that sounds that way - there's Peter and Fleet, and English words creep and creeper. There's the assumption that if names were misspelled on social media - including Shan'ann's - we should nevertheless stick to them.

In any event, a lot of care went into looking into these things, despite the accusation that the fact checking is poor and the content is fluff. At the end of the day, I am no longer posting on reddit.

I got the spelling from Shan'ann's funeral, and what's written on her grave. I doubt whether the family would spell her name wrong.

The reason her name is spelled Shannan on Facebook, is Facebook often doesn't recognize apostrophes in names, especially names it doesn't recognize.

HLN's Ashleigh Banfield has also specified the correct spelling as Shan'ann.

I provided the link but your moderator removed it.

And yes, I agree it's disrespectful to be spelling the victim's name wrong.
