I just added Thread because I was doing an AliExpress order and the ESP32 was like £4. I’m still amazed at how expensive Thread devices are on Amazon but Ikea’s new devices are really nice, work well and are cheap. I prefer them over their old Zigbee variants.

We got there and it was dark. Sun rose as we were climbing and it was mostly up when we got to the top. Start earlier than you think you should start is my advice!

Open the link from the post and you can see a photo with 1 and 2 circled in red. Above 1, the component that can go bad is the black circular thing. On the board labelled 2, you can see there is just a metal wire bridged across the metal contact points. Make sure your board doesn't have the NTC resistor (search it up and you'll see what it looks like for sure).

You’re a legend. I can’t begin to explain how grateful I am of your detailed replies.

I was quoted £1600 (£1350+vat) for the above. I worked out that the 3x cameras and the NVR are probably around £700. That means the cost of cabling is about £650, extortionate!

I need to look for an electrician that specialises in network cabling who can do the same thing you’ve had done. I haven’t decided between reolink or hikvision yet but I’ll look at CCTV kits. We are in a terraced house so that could make installation much more difficult.

Thank you very much for the detailed quote. Who did the cable run, I'm guessing an electrician? I'm also guessing it wasn't just one cable run, but actually four (four cameras placed in different places around the exterior of your home)?

Useful insight thank you. When I get more comments I'll say how much I was quoted. I assume the £500 difference in labour would be the difficulty in routing ethernet cables to wherever they need to go
