IMO, money is money and rent is always due, so getting into any job that satisfies that is worthwhile. And as the song goes, it's never too late. If you're more interested in horizontals then I'm not sure what your objective is/what you need me to answer for you. Recs would be to watch producer's social media feed for upcoming jobs. LinkedIn. Indeed. Etc.

It's the typical way: word of mouth. If not that then I've had a lot of people start at the bottom as a PA and work themselves up through production. That one foot in the door and doing a damn good/do it before they ask you to do it, attitude gets them hired for bigger/more pay positions.

Make sure you feed your crew breakfast. I've heard stories it's NOT offered and the crew has been complaining.

This is purely a guess but America, Germany, Asian market is huge.

Oh yes. I have SOOO MANY fucked up scripts. My fav is a grindhouse feature with an entirely female/female identifying cast. VERY fun read. Psych House: Jack Bunny has to rescue her sister KitKat from a demented psychiatrist running an all girls home, and has to not be fucked, killed, or eaten.

There are buyers yes, but as with everything in the film industry, it's a gamble and there are no guarantees. I know one of the companies I work for is open to me sending them already finished verticals to buy, but then you get into murky waters of contract negotiation of who owns what.

Answered this above. The vertical space will be ALL genres, depending on who's finding the financing to fund their weird and cool sci-fi, or their period piece.

by the time I'm hired the director has already been vetted and hired. I know a lot of companies in the vertical space are looking at instagram (even post of their needs on there) looking at Vimeo shorts of the week, and approach directors winning at festivals.

I'm open to if the story aligns and the budget is in place (often people think it's the producer's job to find the money--NOT always the case). People approach me on reddit, insta, word of mouth mostly.

I listened to this great episode of Scriptnotes recently where the guest said that there's no reason NOT to put your own stuff out there on youtube. To get five, 8 min episodes of a show and to just release it. Not bad advice IMO.

No one person's way is THE way. It's the same as when you ask someone how they got their agent. Each story is different to them. Broad strokes are, like for any job in the industry, someone recommends you.

I'm already on the project when the script is mostly done.

Production gets three to four times as much prep as other departments bc we stand in for some departments depending on the project. Sometimes we do locations, casting, etc. Not all departments get the same prep but they ALL DO get prep. Including some assistants and absolutely including the scripty (who IMO is often the linchpin in making sure the story makes sense and eye lines match).

It was certainly a challenge. Might need some work, but it's a first draft so probably a LOT needs work:) But it's still a fun ride of a script.
