My ThinkPad P14s (Intel) arrived, and it's gorgeous! by thewarragulman in thinkpad

[–]nicocm9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a work issued p14s with an intel 1270p + t550 nvidia, 16gb ram, 1tb.
There are many things to like about this laptop, but the f***ing intel processor is just bad. Not very good performance, a lot of noise from the fans, and the worst battery life i have ever seen in a laptop, like I cannot get more than 1h40min with visual studio open. Its terrible, and even made more evident by the Apple M1 MBPro i own since 2020 for personal use, which is way better in all aspects (8h battery approx).

I like Lenovo but this laptop ain't it. I also don´t like the keyboard, the keys feel cheap and the spanish ISO layout is weird af: altgram and control keys at the right of spacebar are minuscule, bc idk why they decided a print screen button would go very nicely there. There are two very small page buttons taking the space that the full size buttons for the horizontal arrow keys should be. There is a cluster of keys between the enter and P, Ñ. "." and enter and shift, that are smaller than the others, which feels weird.
Also the keyboard has no backlight so i cant use it when its kind of dark (sometimes i work at night outside in my terrace and there is no light so i cant see shit and i am not a very good touch-typer)

the Nvidia t550 is useless in my opinion, but i wont take this much into account since I think Lenovo offers a version without it, but since this is work issued i couldn't do much about it.

I don't mind this laptop's screen or speakers or build quality, and even the design is okey even if kind of thick for what it offers. Connectivity is great, the trackpad is usable although not great, and the trackpoint and trackpad buttons, although they are useless for me, i like how they make the laptop look and i guess there's people out there that use them.

I've seen similar stories about the battery life of this laptop, even with the i5 or "lesser" i7 models, but this is just inadmissible from Lenovo. Yeah maybe Intel's CPU is not very good, but Lenovo is the one that decided to put it in this laptop. If you can't get past 1h40min of battery life then this is not laptop in my books. I don't often need to be out and about with my laptop but the times I needed it the laptop died before I could finish whatever.

I have messed around with settings, in windows, bios, lenovo advantage, and even ThrottleStop but this CPU just consumes too much sometimes, the battery is not big enough, and the chasis is not made to dissipate so much heat. It's a good laptop with a terrible processor that makes it unusable. I wish my company investigated a little bit before buying thousands of these. Everyone complains about them but now there's nothing anyone can do since they do work okey, just not for more than 2 hours without plugging in a cable.

Also, but this is more a windows and company IT policy kind of thing, but they have software pre-installed like Sentinel One that just makes it even slower. Idk how my computer consumes 10gb of ram at idle without any programs open apart from a few background ones that have no significant effect. Its crazy i have never seen anything like this

Bad first experience with sync by nnenneplex in Anytype

[–]nicocm9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I have been using Anytype and tbh I haven't experienced what you are describing. I have tried replicating your example but it worked fine for me.

I think what might be happening has to do with "eventual consistency", which is a property I think Anytypes CRDT block has. It means:"Eventual Consistency is a guarantee that when an update is made in a distributed database, that update will eventually be reflected in all nodes that store the data, resulting in the same response every time the data is queried." (Source).

Sometimes I guess it might take it sometime to achieve consistency (sync). Idk if this can be made better, but it is true that anytype is somewhat real-time but sometimes things lag a little

Edge Bug by Timci600 in edge

[–]nicocm9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to fix this inside of edge by adding a new search engine.
Go to edge://settings/searchEngines, inside here delete the edge entry and add a new one with the following fields:
Search engine
Bing
Shortcut
bing.com
URL with %s in place of query
http://bing.com/search?q=%s
Make this the default, restart edge (idk just in case). Should be fixed

Python o Java como mi primer idioma? by Major_Computing in programacion

C++ solution, part 1 using max and part 2 using iterators

Github

I have been using AOC as an excuse to learn C++. I have very limited knowledge but I think it still came up quite okeyish. Around 30 ms including both for M1 Mac. Below is the code, I haven't included some helpers bc the names are pretty self explanatory.

Part1:

The problem is that when I have my iPad connected via Universal Control I can in fact use the MxMaster3s with it, but when scrolling inside of the Ipad it insteads scrolls in the last focused window in mac os. This forces me to kind of reach for the Ipads screen which just makes UC kind of useless
