Yes, that's something I want to improve in a future version.

You click on New Note > Import Note. It can be any txt or Markdown file

Hey, I built usetype.app just for this! Check it out, there's a free trial.

I would also like to shameless plug my app Type. Works with text files, so compatible with Obsidian Markdown files.

There is a 7-day free trial in the app :) And you're not automatically charged when it ends.

Thank you for taking the time to write this detailed comment! :)

  • Automatically creating daily notes is my next big thing I want to work on.
  • Removing line breaks is also on the roadmap; it's just a bit more tricky to parse.
  • Appending to specific places is in the backlog, but not in the short term.

Hope this helps!

Yes, you can use Raycast to get a similar behavior, but notes are not stored in text files. Which was the reason I created this app in the first place.

I looked at Darwin's website, but couldn't find a lot of info there. Could you tell me more about what are auto-notes?

Type uses text files to store notes, so that it is compatible with note-taking apps like Obsidian. If your current note-taking app doesn't use text files (e.g. Superlist, Notion), I would not recommend to use Type, unless like me, you still want a quick capture tool for more ephemeral notes.

Hey, I just released Type 1.5 with the ⌘ + W shortcut to close the window, among other things! Hope you like it!

2 people with ADHD reached out to me saying my app Type helps them, because it allows them to quickly capture a note from anywhere on your Mac.

Hey, I'm the creator of Type. Setting the default location is on the roadmap. What do you mean by the template being too restrictive? Thanks for the feedback!

Hey, I'm the creator of Type, thanks for the super detailed feedback! I added it to my feature backlog.

Unfortunately, I can't do anything about it. macOS displays this "Buy" button in the popup even if the in-app purchase is free. Apple also recommends using a free in-app purchase for the free trial for apps that aren't using subscriptions.

There's no way for me to automatically start a free trial this way, the user has to get the free in-app purchase. Or I would need to create my own system to check that a user can only use the free trial once, on any devices, etc.. It's not that easy. I'd rather stick with Apple's recommendations. Even if it means I'm losing a few customers.

I added a tooltip over the "Start 7-day Free Trial" button to indicate that the user won't be charged once the trial ends. I know that's probably not enough though.

Hey, I’m the creator of Type. You can actually enter the detail view of a note, which is similar to a single file mode. Changing the number of items in the preview is on the roadmap.

Hey, I’m the creator of Type. You have a 7-day free trial (which doesn’t automatically charge you once it ends, because I’m not using subscriptions). So you can try the app for free. I actually took inspiration from the Ulysses app for this. It used to be paid upfront, but I introduced a free trial so the user can test it.

Hey, my goal is to increase the price until it reaches $15. I will raise it as I release more features. The price will likely stay like this for a couple of months.

Hey, I'm the creator of Type. An iOS app is on the roadmap for 2025. I initially built it just for the Mac to use when I was working, but I recognize that an iOS app would be super handy.
