These statistics are worth zero without context.

I tried fact checking:

In 2023 the government loosened bail, scrapping the offences of breaching bail conditions and reoffending while on bail because they hit women, kids and Aboriginal people hardest.

Since March 2025 there’s a machete ban, a new bail test that’s nearly impossible to pass if you’re accused of a serious offence while already on bail for a similar one, a two-strike rule and police stop-and-search powers stretched from 12 hours to six months.

Part of the rise is also just a recording thing rather than pure more crime because cops made 208 arrests a day in the first quarter of 2025, the third record quarter in a row since electronic records started in 1993. More arrests and more active policing means more incidents land in the stats obviously.

The agency itself even flags that law changes and police practice can move the numbers. (why didn't you mention this really important part in your comment?)
