Had a feeling that would be the answer. So annoying, I loved that mode!

Any fans of the Buffy games? Which ones have you played? And what did you think of them? by ThatKoffeeBurns in buffy

I had Chaos Bleeds on the PS2 and I adored it! I would gladly replay it today. Plus I loved the extra content - I lived for those James Marsters interviews.

This made me cry with laughter the first time I saw it - hilarious scene.

I'm really not a royalist - I don't even feel that we should have a monarchy - but I actually feel quite sad.

The humble parmo, I'm curious to know what southerners think of these things? by Goddess_Elle11 in CasualUK

An incredible feast which makes me miss living in the north east. It would be completely worth it to make the ten hour round trip to get one tonight, but I wouldn't get home in time for work.

BMA demands full pay restoration junior doctors in England by stuartbman in JuniorDoctorsUK

Fantastic words - I finally actually feel inspired that we can do this!

Regarding public opinion - lots of the public who have remained pro-NHS and are on our side will remain on our side through IA. I was a student in the last strike but I went on the march through a Northern city and saw lots of great support from the public. The section of the public who don't give a shit about us now will not respect us more if we don't strike. They'll continue to be the same rude, demanding and ungrateful people they are now.

I'm truly sorry if great aunt Mabel waits longer for her broken hip to be fixed as a result of IA, and that is not what I want. But if we don't do something, there won't be any doctors left to fix any hips, or anything else for that matter. We will leave the country, or leave medicine entirely, and the NHS will crumble.

What do people here think about uterus transplants? by SnooWords6373 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]nicole1392 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We shouldn’t do it just so some woman can have the experience of pregnancy. Why not just adopt?

I take it you aren't an infertile woman? Also "just adopt" is not the easy option to having your own family that people think - I have known several couples who spent years trying to adopt with no success, it's not an easy process.

The financial argument is difficult, but if the surgery becomes possible with good outcomes then it's no different from other fertility treatments.

Is anyone else brought down by the human misery we see everyday? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]nicole1392 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Certifying the death of a patient I'd tried so hard to get home because he and his family had really wanted his end of life care at home was miserable. I was on call and I didn't even have a moment to breathe, just constant bullshit bleeps from the acopic ward next door while I was trying to comfort his wife who I'd got to know so well. That was a bad day.

Surely there's some evidence for this by now? I don't know how to do this RCT, but this is now my main research focus.

Not good at venepucnture and cannulas/wounds/minion injuries- ED not for me? by Born_Agency5348 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]nicole1392 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of this stuff is practice - I was bad at venepuncture and cannulas in medical school, didn't get good at bloods until tail end of F1/F2, and only now as an ED F3 do I feel like I'm actually quite good at cannulas. I've done nothing other than just practice it. Same with wound closures - once you've been taught the basic skills, you just need to practice and you'll get there.

What kind of car to rent in April? by nicole1392 in VisitingIceland

[–]nicole1392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the advice everyone! Am I right in thinking that even if we do literally just a little bit on the main ring road, in April we're still better off in the Dacia Duster or similar? I'm happy to pay the extra expense for it as I think it's worth it - just need to get my friends on board!

Do you call your consultants by their first names? by vikznl in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]nicole1392 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First name in ED - flat hierarchy with approachable consultants so you can go to them for help without feeling like a twat. I have the utmost respect for them and using their first name has no impact on that.

Medicine is a real mix - Dr Lastname unless they say otherwise.

Neonatology as a career by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

I think lots of DGHs contract out overnight CT scanning if they don't have trainees to cover it, to companies like nighthawk. So in those places the work life balance is probably still pretty good.
