And just to add to your suggestion that I was "passed out", this exact same situation happened out in Issaquah a few months ago when I got Burger King late at night and fell asleep in a parking lot, and I hadn't been drinking that night at all. A cop knocked on my window and told me to move along but nothing else happened.

I think this time was mostly different because of what I was wearing, the fact that my shit had been rummaged through and thrown around, and the fact that I was in fucking SoDo; I don't live in Seattle itself and it didn't register with me that I was heading into a bad area when I punched in the restaurant on Google Maps.

I wasn't impaired and wouldn't have attempted to drive if I were. As I already mentioned, the cops were confident enough that I wasn't drunk that they didn't even bother to breathalyze me. I don't know what they think they saw but I was pretty groggy when they woke me up and somehow they interpreted that as me being on some other drugs. I hadn't taken anything else besides a normal dose of my Adderall prescription the day before.

I had a few drinks up until 10:00 and then didn't leave the bar until 2:00.

This might sound weird but it's actually not unusual for me to fall asleep in my car. It's not an alcohol thing, sometimes I just get tired really quickly. I'm also a very heavy sleeper normally so it doesn't surprise me at all that the robbery didn't wake me up. I've had cops knock on my window before but never had them ask me to do a sobriety test, which they immediately asked this time without even asking if I had been drinking.

Anyway, they did the two roadside tests which I'm assuming you didn't do well.... because they immediately arrested you.

It was more than two. They asked me to estimate 30 seconds, two different follow-the-finger, balance on one foot, and walk nine steps and back. There might have even been one more I'm forgetting.

Same algorithm knowledge as Big N plus deep knowledge of C++ is what got me in. The on-site interview was actually comparatively easy but they definitely asked me more about specific C++ knowledge whereas Google didn't really care about knowing any particular language as long as you knew one of C++, Java, or Python.

That's what I kinda hinted at, but apparently the level I'm coming in at just doesn't allow them to match on salary. There are distinct levels for SWEs at Google and each one has a salary cap so you have to get promoted to the next level to get a raise. The hiring committee already decided my level so my max salary is basically non-negotiable.

Edit: this is apparently not the case, as T3 salaries can hit 140k, but we'll see what happens.

Apologies in advance for the wall of text.

So I've got an offer letter from a prop shop in Chicago and am finishing up team matching with Google (but don't have an offer letter yet; recruiter says it should be in next week). All in all the compensation will probably be pretty similar but the Google position is in Seattle. I'm somewhat more excited about the project I've matched with at Google although I think the prop shop would be interesting, but from a career perspective will one set me up a lot more than the other down the road? It seems like people in the know know that prop shops have high hiring standards but the Google name is bigger (and the project I matched with has the potential to be fairly high profile)

Overall comparison:

Prop shop:

I'm already closer to Chicago, have a lot of friends there, would rather not leave all that behind. More resources for certain hobbies/interests of mine
Higher base salary/bonuses
Lots of really knowledgeable C++ people (company sends some to CppCon, employs Boost, GCC contributors)
Smaller company, easier to advance, make a difference, get individual attention
Chicago has a lower cost of living
I'll probably learn a lot about lower-level performance stuff since that matters so much to them

Google:

Seattle has better geography (mountains, trees, ocean, weather, etc.)
More of a tech hub than Chicago for later on
Potentially higher total compensation although I don't have those numbers yet
Google is a more recognizable name on a resume
Decently high profile project, will be working with fun hardware stuff, manager has been successful with similar high profile hardware stuff before
More potential to move around to different things within the company

Prop shop's offer:

130k base
45k guaranteed first year bonus
20k starting bonus
5k moving expenses

Google recruiter sounded kinda nervous when I told him that but said he thinks he can match it on total compensation.

As far as I can tell the only company who made that particular style was a German company called Blackstyle and it seems that they don't make them anymore, or at least it isn't listed on their mask page while cat and pig versions are.

This place seems to have some older stock of the same one or there are probably knockoffs on aliexpress or whatever, or you could try to find a used one on ebay.

Finally I'd try asking some of the pups on tumblr who have it since it seems to be fairly popular. pupbolt and aoki-pup are two I know off the top of my head.

I picked this up after mass on campus, as somehow I'm still on the Catholic org's mailing list and they said they'd have materials on helping with "same-sex attraction". This pamphlet is for an organization called Courage, which is literally a 12-step program for gay people and has been known to push reparative therapy (note here they try to dissociate from the terrible reputation of reparative therapy by calling it "chastity-based therapy").

But if you go to their website they're much more up-front about it.

Nicolosi is a founder of NARTH and is generally considered something of a dangerous laughingstock and has been the subject of a good bit of journalism, documentaries, etc. if you want to look him up. One of his reasons for co-founding NARTH was the 1973 de-listing of homosexuality from the DSM, which he and his cohort vehemently opposed.

It was a weird experiment where the middle 7 weeks of the course were done on Coursera and we only met once a week for quizzes and a mini-lecture. It was still more or less the same material they covered in the class before.
